Licho is kind of the main admin of the server, and he is one of the main maintainers/devs of CA. if he says that springrts.com is the CA server, and BA is tolerated as a guest, then that means BA does not have its own server.
that is what i was trying to say. ;-)

Website is work in progress obviously; if at any time you decide to trade talking smack for contributing something, that would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I'm in the spoken advice business right now.
And when I decide to go forth and create a game, my first dream is actually a StarControl 2 clone.

However, I do apologize if I insulted someone here.
I'm saying what I think should be done, because I assume there are people here who are working on their games and want these games to succeed.
Since it seems that the vast majority of the people posting here are Spring veterans, I thought my POV as a Spring newbie (sort off, but I'll spare you my Spring history) can be useful.


@Licho:
If springrts.com is a CA server I suggest you ban all other mods from it.
Or at least all the Spring-killing autohosts.

(As always, everything I saw is IMO, brought to you with the hope it'll help and that it represents the opinions of others as well, despite the fact that I don't have any proof that that's the case).

Democratic development will never work for a game. As a prime example, I point at CA. ZK is another matter entirely, but CA was always a huge mess without a direction.

First requirement is creativity. All the dev skills in the world won't help if you aren't creative. Secondly, you have to LEARN how to use the engine, not just throw random numbers and stats changes at something.

Did you know that the flash tank's bursting is very broken? Is that one of the things you would bother to fix? I fixed it a long time back but of course Noize didn't understand (because he knew very little about what he was doing) so it was never implemented.

The common theme among *A modders is that they don't know horseshit from peanut butter when it comes to the engine. If all you're going to do is tweak some unit stats, why bother. On the other hand, if you want to actually make it BETTER, and aren't an arrogant prick to everyone around who knows what they are doing, you'll have no end of help. But the rest of us don't like 'modders' (modders are people who change unit stats around and know very little else), however, we are quite happy with Game Developers, or in *A's case, Mod Developers :-)

Who is "us"? I think that making a game fun is much more challenging than the technical part. Those unit stats will make or break the mod. And you can go very far by starting with an existing mod and tweaking stats.

Look at the numbers, then look at it ingame and watch it's dps via the dps widget.

It's partially an issue with the way the burst is done, and the other half of it is the assbackwards way that the barrel switching happens.

If there's really something wrong with those, probably someone else besides you will notice it too? Flash might not do exact same dps as the stats imply, but why does this matter - it still does enough damage to be very useful to build and doesn't bug out in any way while playing.

Yes it does, you just aren't seeing it basically. I had to look fairly close before I caught it. Broken performance is broken performance. It is not a feature. The entirety of *A needs to be re-scripted, badly.

If it's something nobody ever sees - it doesn't matter! Of course there are scripts that are bad in a way that actually affects playing, like samson or ground transports, but flash is not one of them.

erorrs caused by scripts if are fun(not annoying) or just are not felt(aside fomr balance) dont matter.

Forb you really want to be in the statistic? every once in awhile someone starts a new mod does work on it and than starts shitting all over ta if its scripts visuals or gameplay.

Now its fine if you were a TA dev yourself ATM,making a TA game but whne your devving some other mod/game it just sounds like your saying "your ta mod(BA) is shit cause of this and that,come play my superior game that deserves more play time".

I mean do you really want to become a part of that group distinguished by the same cliche attacks on TA mods..
By insulting something one likes you make him resent you and dont you want these same players to actually play your game?

Perhaps you're forgetting FunTA. I worked on that before I started evo. I have first hand knowledge how how bad the *A shit really is. Dig a hole in the sand, shove your head in, you'll be no different from any other tinkerer that has messed with the *A shit.

Or, you could listen to those of us that are more experienced (especially those of us who are very familiar with the innards of *A -- AA/BA in particular, I've never cracked open anything else in the *A realm besides BOTA). But you're right, it's easier to get offended and lash out than to actually fix anything. I agree.

Either fucking do it right, or don't do it at all. That's my point. There are plenty of clueless idiots around here, more isn't going to help anything.

Speaking of idiotic things... Why is BA not using the evolva models again?

Sure TA mods might have more bugs than other non ta games on the engine but so what?I mean do you expect to argue with some players and than somehow by making them angry cause you constantly attack TA and TA mods they would get magicly fixed?
If some TA dev wanted to fix all tTA scripts he would have done it if you talked about it in the forums or not.
I maintain SA and i do not intend to go over any scripts unless they noticbly hurt the gameplay.
Its a super boring process and is ,at this stage, mostly cosmetic since
even if script bugs make a unit less powerfull its already part of the balance.

There are far more important thing to do for any ta mod/game that wants to get more players.
If BA or XTA or SA or whatever ta mod want to get more players, ATM, scripts are way down in the priority list.

None even have a website..I mean all TA mods are literally hidden in some hole inside the engine's webpage or an obscure lobby system.
TA mods have 0 net exposure, and even when someone known a ta 3d game exists it will be a serious effort to get it or find it over the net.

If a TA modder was to truly care about his mod He'd start from fixing these basic faults before touching something like script bughunting and bugfixing.

Fixing current TA scripts would in fact be a huge waste of time if the goal is to get more players(or any players).

The point is that it isn't an insult. For some reason you guys get all upset anytime that anyone points out that shit in *A is epicly broken. cry and whine,then build a bridge and get the hell over it and maek fixie.

Except that no BA player is whining about a broken flash script because it's not a problem.

The only person whining is someone making an opposing mod who wants to show that HE IS MORE THOROUGH AND BA SUCKS, etc.

No, my entire point is that if you're going to make a BA 2.0 or whatever, do it right. Don't half ass it and fix the shit that is very broken. The flash is only one very tiny example of fucked up scripts.

At what point did I ever pit BA against anyone other non-*A game in this thread? Oh that's right, I didn't. Shaddup.
