Me too, but using it as an indicator is a good idea.

Why? I think the host should be able to set whatever restrictions he want, he's the one hosting...

Just going to echo the request here:

The ability to open/close your own battle, and the ability to change battle settings while in the battle.

Because it encourages people to just set their rank to non-appropiate levels...
If you want an elitist game, you can make is password protected... Or kick somebody you think too noob from it...
Maybe later, when there are 100s of players. Or when there is a rank system that actually says something (and not just "how much times has player wasted online´"....)

So, it should be a value that people can flaunt around? A "pee stain on the wall" as it were.

Or mabey make the rank limiting work the other way. Make it so you can set a maxmum rank, so that vet's cant join newbie's games, but newbie's can join vet's games.

I also request moderators.... Some people just spam the main with all sorts of crud to make the channel useless....

If anyone needs an example, I can post one...

edit:

Here's another thread with bunches of ideas: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2087

Betalord wrote:... ranking system... it's causing "disturbance" amongst the players already as it is. ...
 Damm...
Although i haven't noticed it... I did see alot of newbs trying to set they're rank as level 5, hahahaha.
Betalord wrote:I forgot to mention: you will be able to limit battle to players with certain rank, so that players with lower rank won't be able to join.
I think it should be, instead, limit maximum rank. That way a noob can be sure that very experienced players will not come in and massacre him.

About the discussion about the current limitation of min-rank, people can join anyway. It just gives them a warning and asks them if they're sure, which is ok to me.

I agree that it would be good for new players to be able to limit by Max rank. I would not replace one for the other I would suggest a >=, <= or no ranking limit option, similar to what you have now.

Either way you can not stop someone re registering and lowering their rank under another name!

Still I think its still a good option.

personally i want REAL ranking system as i've said before on a ladder. i know it would take time to put in the game but it would be a MUCH better indication of rank than stfu how many hours you've played  also cheating/bug abuse is not really a issue as this is still a small community and the game isn't very buggy. the one thing i request which will probably take AGES is a way for the game to figure out which player has disconnected if such a thing happens and auto report the other players win and this players loss because otherwise if you are losing then you can just pull the plug >.>(really pissed me off on BFME)

as addition to my previous post there are another missing features:

- ignore person (/ignore [name]) (some spammers going on your nerves from time to time :)
- "ignore list" (button on top)
- buddies (/friend [name]) (easier to find someone i like then)
- "friend list" (buttom on top)

and about maps / mods ...

possible to have direct download url to archive or bittorent in

modinfo.tdf
and add newly something similar for maps like mapinfo.tdf

so if lobby detect you don't have "yet" the map or equal build it will show info and the link from host's info file ?

this way it will be easier than "seeking" wth get that map / mod ...

and one little feature request ...

option to allow split lobby and battle window into two "real" windows ...
it's impossible to switch between if you maximize the battle window ...
and of course ... minimize to tray icon :)

thanks

p.s. if anything of this already exist sorry but i must missed it :)

Lobby allows internal map downloading already...
Just click on the default-minimap if you dont have the map, and it will open the download window.

(and yes, a ignore function would be nice. For the lobby AND the game.

thanks for noting the "downloading" already exist i was more likely about something even more n00b friendly (one click to download) ...

anyway i have noticed one little issue with actual map list / downloading ... there is no "size" of map in KB/MB info in both map list and downloading window

also i suggest some change / tweak into "update" map list feature ...

what about "NOT" download minimaps of maps i already have ! i mean some sort of economical work with bandwidth / space .... button "update new/changed only"

I agree, don't display maps that you already have is a good idea.

I've another idea :

When clicking on battlescreen button, allow the user to changes settings, and add bots without clicking on "host battle". So they can setup a game without being connected.

It will allow :
-People without internet to make skirmish game easly (go go Zaphod:))

-People who just want to test/try a mod to not advertise their game ( it's annoying when 3/4 of the games have only 1 people in it because they try a mod )

just "bonus" feature, what about add new identification icons for maps / mods (just flag in map/mods info):

- developer release (alpha build)
- test release (beta build)
- stable build ( public "final" release)
