I can't believe regulars of these forums haven't yet understood it after so many talk about it...
Why do people prefer to play team games?
- They loose less often. In a 1v1 you loose 50% of the times.
Wait, in team games of XvX you also loose 50% of the times!?
Not really. In a 2v2, for example, your team has 50% chance of loosing. But you do not constitute your whole team, only half of it, so you will only loose 50% of the defeat, the other half of the responsibility for loosing belongs to your mate. (So, you "loose only 25% of the times") In a 3v3, responsibility for defeats gets even lowered.
Honestly, i can't remember ever loosing any 3v3 or bigger and feeling like i had much responsibility about it. Who likes to loose and have all the responsibility of the defeat on you, rubbed in your face?
- Team games last longer and tend to be more balanced.
In a 1v1 games last much less (which can be good, on the other hand, but not if you want to play the game of 30~50 mins you are acostumed to and want to). When the balance of the game shifts, it is usually ireversible.
Also, when one player is better than the other, the diference is usually screaming and there is no chance for the other.
On team games, on the other hand, diferences tend to get diluted. A good player may make a diference but it is not that much determinant. Just the same for bad players, which, only in team games, can they have fun playing and actually no get 100% massacred.
That said, i wish there were more 1v1s, since they are faster. Sometimes i got bored of the games always lasting 50+ mins.
Also, yes, 1v1s are the best training. They are what improves your game the most.
Also, i wish there were options to play teams against the computer (which never minds getting massacred), like the multiplayer campaigns that have been promissed for SupCom (not skirmishes, which are definetly not the same as holding out an inicial surge of enemies and, in the end, roll over a massive base of enemies, haaaaaa).

Yeah, I kinda like it that way sometimes, but not always. It gets tiring after a while. However, I agree with flop that skills are developed better in 1v1s.TradeMark wrote:No, its too stressful and frustrating and annoying and unrelaxed and that way unfun type of playing.
Also, for those not inclined to play 1v1, playing something like a 2v2 and a big map is also helpful for increasing skill.
