EMP or jammer seem smartest options to me.

You'd think the URC's would jam, cause they are supposed to be the 'hidden' race.

Well, the world isn't perfect.

And then there was one.

So, about those emp weapons?

EMP? So you can stop raiders in their tracks, but do nothing else. Sure why not?

I'm usually the one playing as URC, and I'm always up against a skilled GD player, so I never really noted that before. Anyway, back to EMP...

Drone says, then...
Okay, Howabout a detection mex? Like a large radar range and LOS, meaning that it ould be used to detect lots?
Proceeds to suggest exactly the same thing!
How are dirt cheap and long LOS in any way the SAME THING?

Please explain.

Read my posts, not quite what I suggested.

Well, you could jsut take a simple routen and give them mexxes that extract more overll, but that's more of a GD thing as well as the fact that it would likely be unbalancing as hell given their ability to rapidly expand...

Anyways, I have a better idea, I havent give too too much thaught to balance on this, or even fesability of implementation, so bear with me....

The general design would be that the mex emits a largeish EM pulse centered on itself when attacked, or prehaps just periodicly or somthing, I suppose this could be acomplished by forcing it to shoot a slow moving balistic projectile straight up, so the projectile would land back on itself, and giving said projectile EMP damage and a large radius, as well as giving it a dmage modifier for the metal extractor so the extractor does not EMP itself (or mabye it should, as a tradeoff)

Anyways, i thaught it kinda fits with the NI's philosiphy of speed, scince it has the effect of slowing the enemy, such a thing would need to be balanced thoughly, and i'm not even usre if a unit can be scripted to arbitrairly fire a weapon along a predifined vector...

EDIT: even if you cant get it to force fire you could probably use a hackish implementation by making a balistic weapon that would normaly hit targets in range of the pulse but adding a deflector sheild that pulls the shot back into the metal extractor almost instantly...

That projectile could make for NI bases to look very weird and otherworldly, if it were how I imagine it. And very very cool.

The way I see it is: The mex periodically fires up a big blue blob or something that goe's up and slowly floats down untill it hits the mex again and sends out some land flare. A blue land flare. So your base would constantly have these blue things going up and down and up and down, almost hypnotic like...

that would look friggen cool.

^Well, I was actualy proposing that the projectile would come back in so fast as to be invisible, but I guess that works too....

And i jsut realised that if it were periodic you'd probably end up emping alot of your won stuff too, so probably only when attacked....

What is the problem with this?

Cant the mexes be able to produce units/defences by themselves?
Wasnt it planned that each mex should also be able to produce basic NI units ?

If not, just give them an EMP, one with an area effect, whenever enemies come to attack the mex, they would be stunned for 3 seconds, just like the ion cannon does it, so the NI player gets time to pull some units to defend the mex.

Yeah.. if it is made EMP be very careful about balencing it.. you can make mexes anywhere you want.

^or make it like the UH/AA exploiter, where the turret rotation speed is bound to the metal extraction rate.

THat's horrible though, cause then it takes forever to turn on normal metal patches. I absolutely hate the AA exploiters.
