Fileplanet is NOT free. They stopped offering Free acounts a long time ago. And You can't retrieve free account Data either. I don't think. So gamspy/fileplanet = no.

There are 2 fileplanet thingys. The free one and the money cost verity. The money cost verity give's you neat perks that no one wants and front place in every line (witch everyone wants) and the free type one is...well...free and line waiting.

it also depends on what files you are getting it seems old games are on a different file server. I can get my old files with little(as in 2-3 people) or no wait.

However, Again it is also a suggestion because it will draw more players in. Hell, I'll manage the damn news.

I can't stand fileplanet/gamespy - i'd rather have to crawl through the sewers with my mouth open over a period of several weeks to get to my file, then getting poked with a sharp stick on the journy back, only to find i've been given the wrong file in the firstplace! yup.. :P

I've got a free fileplanet account, but they still don't offer any downloads that have less then a half hour wait, to DL instantly I would need a paid account, thus I don't use fileplanet any more.

If it has lines, its useless for the lobby based download server. Unless "spring" gets an account and it autouses that one.

File Universe is now back!

Rather than the six days I initially predicted, your generous donations have brought FileUniverse back in less than two. Congratulations, and enjoy it: You guys deserve it. Thanks to all those who supported us, either financially or otherwise, and to those who extended the temporary measures to offload some of the demand.

With the upgrades coming to both FU, and our whole server very shortly, this will hopefully not be repeated. The only difference you will notice is a slight decrease in download rates, during peak load. With the other things we're working at the moment, that may also no longer be an issue within the month.
