Air itself burns on its own at high temperatures, how do you not know air is sucked in and compressed then burnt in a variation of the scramjet configuration? Also that first weapon is an energy weapon, thus it will generate photonic emmissions when fired.

EDIT: 400 posts?!?!?!?! I'm in a league of ym own again, also those are trails in that screeny, the same trails that ares upposed to be draining the engine if they where placed on aircraft? Make them white and they'll do fine, they already fade out anyways. And if you are right thn fine we'll just make sure ther're no missile units when we play, so no nukes merls wombats etc.

coz oxygen plus nitroget or hydgrogen will not produce black flames, on the other hand aluminuim oxide, comnly used solid rocket booster fuel, does. lets face it the tech of TA hasnt been thought out as well as some other sci-fis (like star trek) so both of us could be right.

But that black wasnt a flame, the flame is the bright yellow golden thing, somethign at that temperature would produce a white flame like that with tinges of colour round the edge. The smoke is just a consequences of ionized particles or fumes from the air reactions.

Correct

And for the person who said about Limited metal, it seems too battlezony to me.

Id say a combo. Limitless but small amounts (max at +100 per mine) metal and also massive metal supplies to reclaim (urban OTA maps)

Maby their could be a third resourse. Nanites. Think about it, you are constantly useing and creating nano bots. Nano bots are created by Nano lathers, so the more builders, the more Ninites in the air round yor base. That way you can put down Nanite controlers that can gather clouds of defecne nanites into an area. Then anything that gets close to it gets eaten and disolves. Muhahahahaha! Also anyone hear of my cool cool cool idea for a dooms day nanit bomb whitch works like so. You let lose a cloud of say 100 trillion or so nanites and set them to reconstruct. That way they can reconstruct all the matter in their area turning it into Nanites with the same program. So you have a bigger and bigger cloud of Nanites, whitch means the matireal in the map (buildings, units, the map) will get chewed up faster and faster until the entiere map is a seething nanite blob! Of cours the Nanites have a off switch, so after say half the map has been devestated you can turn the nanites off and they fall to dust, compacting into new ground! So the effect is flattening the half the map! Of course if the enemy findes your Nano Control center and blows it to kingdom come, then the nanites will stop working right. The efect could be that either A) They attack everythign and anything, killing every one. Or B) they could fall to dust and stop working. Hows that for a Dooms Day Machine!

Didn't quite read your whole post there zoombie, but got the idea from the first few lines, what we really need is support for more than two resources, that would open up modding options for the non-standard-ta-mod inclined.

I'm all for modability and customization...

Why not allow both! Infinite metal patches, with a map-specific option to make them limited. It would be like playing on an urban map in OTA where there were no metal patches, just buildings to suck up and whatever metalmakers you could get up in time.

Or you could just make the non-infinite metal patch yourself by making a feature that looks like one. But I don't think metal patches quite look the same or work the same as in OTA. I would love a pic that proves me wrong about the look the same part though...

Yeah, I've seen http://taspring.clan-sy.com/screenshots/screen56.jpg, and I ahve to wonder how you get this view. Is there an overlay button, like in SimCity? If so, could we have more overlays? It would be interesting if the game could keep stats on where units were killed, and give you a bright red overlay of Killing Zones.

Just a thought

Which brings up the question, with the new system of placing metal in the map, how do we know where the metal is located in-game? I was thinking, "maybe it brings that up when you select a metal extractor". But then I though, "but how do we know where the metal is to place the first one?"

If you look in the screen shots Archangel you'll spot one with a green/red overlay (cant remember), which shows you where the metal is (IE green/red is metal). You toggle the overlay on useing tab or some such...

Well seeing as how it seems like no one GOT my idea, i will explain.

Nanites are used in TA to destroy all needless piddling around with resoureses. You only need anykind of matireal, just by juggling Nutrons, Protons and Electrons into different molicules then you can make WHATEVER you wany. So technicaly you can PROGRAM your nanobots so that they reconstruct everything in there poxsimity, turning them into more nano bots. So it gose faster and faster and faster untill the entire map is a huge blob of nanites. However, you can always turn them off once a lare enough area of the map is destroyed to your likeing. THen the nanites fall down to the ground and are compacted, so you have a flattened area of terrain. Also the enemy can blow up your nano control center, then the nanites will stop working right. Whitch can either be good... or bad...

Nanites couldnt just maneouvre protons neutrons and electrons into atoms like that, there are other forces anvolved not to mention the sheer miniscularity at which these particles exist in comparison to a nanite composed of atoms. Although, I think your nanite idea is too great an advantage. EMP should disabel them. So should normal weapons incinerate them tho not all of them. Flame weapons should be especially effective tho not as all disabling as EMP. Lightning weapons should also do good. And I think that they should take a long time to take hold.
And what about how they will look? Surely the engine cannot render trillions of picoscopic objects.

The juggling of protons and neutrons to create heavy metal is always what I assumed metal makers did. The amount of energy used by them, judging from the size of solar panels, seems much more on line with the requirements of endothermic fusion than spontainious matter generation.

It seems we have a misunderstanding of the use of nano-bots in TA, so to clarify I will post content from the glossary of my Total Annihilation manual. All bow before the authority of the manual:
Definition of nano-bots:
Nano-bot: A nano-bot is a robot that has components on the nanometer scale,
that is, its components that are made up of individual atoms or groups of
atoms. These tiny robots can, in great numbers, be used to build any object
Definition of Nano-lathing:
Nano-lathing: Tiny robots (10 microns across or less) are sprayed onto a pow-
ered skeleton. They each 'know' allowable places they may link up (as well as
being guided by the powerful intelligence within the nano-lathing unit) and as
they settle into position they fuse creating solid material. Then a second stage
of nano-lathing occurs where highly specialized nano-bots seek out precise
locations on this skeleton to form optical links, weapon systems, intelligences,
and other internal components.

Provided there is a bluepring, anything can be built with nano-lathing.
And of course metal:
Metal: Nano-bots are made of metal. While non-metallic elements used to
build the nano-bots are used in quantity, the rare elements which limit produc-
tion are a variety of heavy metals, so the raw material need to build nano-bots
has come to be known generically as "metal".

Metal will not show up on a Commander's display until it has been formed into
nano-bots ready to be teleported.
These are word for word qoutes, no grammar mistakes fixed. (and there are a couple)

I'm not really for WMD's in a game. (Obviously nukes aren't in TA's scale) Well, as a personal modification... but thats it. It might be interesting to watch a green blob consumer everything a couple times. But as shown, it doesn't fit into TA's canon. (Any ever play Outpost 2: Divided Destiny? That reminds me of the blight...)
