i think i selection of "approved" mods should be included; mods that have been found to adhere to a certain standard of quality.

We'll feed you lemons.

Anyway, good luck SJ with your future.
Zaphod looks sane to me, and probably the best person for the job.

I agree with FizWizz and Min3mat, only XTA should be included. (And one map)
The rest should be easy to accesable for everyone to download. (it already does. Well maybe you should be able to download mods as you do with maps. (What IMSabbel mentioned.))

Painted desert can be ditched, but small devide and mars just have such ironclad gameplay I'd hate to see either one of them not included. It's a waste of time as everyone would DL them right away anyways they are played so much. Small devide is still probably the best 1v1 map out there.

I agree that Small Divide is a must-have map, and it is also an ideal starter-map too. Not too big, has unique terrain, uses the 'trainer' mission. Flooded Desert and Mars just aren't as good, and from my experience they are not played often either

I've seen quite a few games played on Mars.

By the way, I know I'm behind the times but, what happened to "Map2"? You know, this one: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Image:Groupshot4.jpg

IMO that was a really good map.

thought that was called map4, not map2. But it was a good map. Release it again!

It was never compiled into the new map format, as far as I know. It had poor metal and geo layout (north had a billion geos and more metal), the amounts of usable land for north/south wasn't very proportionally laid out (north had more room), etc... the only thing it had going for it was the graphics, which did look nice.

Well, with proper geo and metal placement it could be very playable. I wonder if anyone still has the original files used to create that map?

IIRC south had more roo m on that map...

It's not worth modifing, best off remaking it.

And how dare you say mars isn't good, i'd say it's the best map in the game.. period.

ok, so don't have that map in for multiplayer. insert a tag that is SINGLEonly=True and make Spring therefore ONLY list that map for skirmish scripts.

its perfectly cool for making movies with spring on... I was gonna use it to make an intro movie when I worked out how :D

SJ, one of the mightiest XTA commanders in Spring existance and one of the ones who carried the game in it's steady growth up to an average of 80~100 people in saturday nights, all vibrating at the sounds of Annihilators firing, roaring thunders of Big Berthas and beatifull flashes of commanders exploding, i've already had the oportunity to wish good luck to his new job.

Now, i wish good luck to you Zaphod!

hehe yea, it stinks that SJ is leaving. GOod luck.

I remember back in my ota days when the ta demo recorder was the best thing ever for TA. Then years later, they showed us their private spring project which made everyone drool.

How many years has the SY been working on Spring?

I don't think anyone else in the TA community put so much effort and work and time into it that it literally changed it for teh better.

Heck, SJ, you should ask Chris Taylor to hire you. I know he hired people from the TA community. GPG is made up of mostly previous cavedog employees and uber talented people from the ta community.

I remember reading it somewhere, can't remember exactly where tho.
