The icy weather over here has caused my university to close today. I'm glad they closed it too. It's scary driving around over here when bridges ice over. People don't have anything like tire chains for driving through such weather and there are always accidents when it rains. So, it would be really terrible to drive out there right now. Everything is sopping wet and cold. It would probably be scary driving over all of those bridges too, because we have so many rivers and lakes around here.

Many people that I know in the US are still more comfortable with the the English units than they are with the metric system, but I don't mind using either one. The metric system is more useful when studying microorganisms and mixing chemicals.

most of the time you dont speak them anyway. if you are measurring a room and say "two forty from the window to the door" it is clear that you know meters. centimeters would be a super small room (1m=100cm) and kilometers would be huge like xbox (1km = 1000m)
now with foot/yard the factor is not 100 or 100 but just 3...
2,40 foot and 2,40 yards are both lengths that you could find in a room so yeah fail.

If you ever go work with these guys who build houses etc... you'll be amazed how precise they can tell how long some object is in cm precision. And other guys can tell in mm precision if they see it in their hands... not a big deal.
