Re: Automatic navigation meshes
A: We didn't say we wanted a full description
Our point is that you should stop going on about how awesome your algorithm is if your not going to provide even the briefest description of how it works
B: if you can't summarize then your buggered even if you do type out the whole thing
The inability to summarise is not because you need to know every detail to figure out the gist of it, it's actually a failure of your English skills. I can describe how a nuclear power plant basically works, but I don't know the details of when to replace uranium rods, or how the waste is removed and disposed of, I can describe the fundamentals of a scream jet in a short sentence too but there are a lot of details
If your algorithm is of any use, you would be wanting to write and submit a research paper, and the first thing you would have is an 'abstract' yet according to what you've said, such a thing is impossible to write.
So here is what you should do:
Describe at a very high level the idea, in a paragraph no larger than 4-5 lines, then, and only then, follow it up with details if requested. The initial paragraph acts as a hook to draw in interest and evaluation.
This kind of structure would serve you well in a lot of your posts since you focus on volume and quantity to clarify, rather than quality, and it's quality people look for online, not quantity.
If you can't summarise ideas at a high level to transfer the basic premise behind the idea then your not going to get very far in persuading others that your idea is good, even when you've typed it up in full.

Re: Automatic navigation meshes
What part of, "I do not want to give the description in a way that is not completely attributable" do I need to re-explain, mr.-I'm-using-patented-code?If you can't summarise ideas at a high level to transfer the basic premise behind the idea then your not going to get very far in persuading others that your idea is good, even when you've typed it up in full.
Maybe you need to talk to your professors about this, to get a better understanding why I am completely unwilling to do what you're asking...
Re: Automatic navigation meshes
That is a rather abusive and immature below the belt remark, you do not attack other peoples character and their projects because you don't not like what they have said. Act professionally, your the sole representative of your commercial project, and the actions and attitudes of other community members don't negate this or make things like this a valid course of action.
Regarding your attack:
So far you have not said you don't wish to discuss it, rather you have asked if we would like you to describe in a large write up or not, and you have said that you would have to detail it in full or not at all, and refused to provide minimal details other than a feature list of what would result when forum posters have inquired as to the direction you are headed, rather than anything of substance.
Regarding your attack:
- I am not using patented code in Shard
- I have explained I did not want to fall afoul of academic rules.
- 70% of Shards code is already distributed in plaintext lua
- I have already laid out a release schedule for source

Please no personal attacks.
I am done here until I have time for a complete description.

Re: Automatic navigation meshes
That's what you should have wrote on your second post on this thread.Argh wrote:I am done here until I have time for a complete description.
You can't just write pages of text talking about nothing and in the end telling us that you don't have time.
