Updated Submission from Jack Cloudy at SFM:
); he is thinking that it falls to earth as a sphere, and then the dome armour rolls back to reveal the actual HQ. This returns to position when switched to an armoured state.
I think the actual radar tower needs work, but it's quite a nice design.
Pretty funky. I like the way it looks like a bunker (take notes, spike!First up is the usual general overview. I've added a flat plane to make it easier to judge what's above ground and what's below. The gears are now equiped with spokes as well to give them more presence.

Next up is a close-up on one of the laser turrets, the rear one in this case. It looks a bit bland right now and lacks any ability to swivel up and down but I think it's not the worst gun I've ever made. It's fully focussed on hitting ground targets because with how it's hanging down from a ceiling, it wouldn't be able to swivel up anyway.

The radartower. Like with everything, it lacks intimidation. I think it needs some antenna on top and a more slender tower. The con to that is that any antenna wouldn't be able to fit under the dome without folding.

Last, the missile launchers. Right now they're simply two tubes that swing up to a 90 degrees angle before firing. I suppose it could be turned into a turret if I made a decent turretbase to go with it.

well some progress
In the updated model i implented somekind of feet.(need meganisme to do something)( When it is flying.) engines maybe need to be made so they can rotate to different directions underneath the craft :D. But maybe it just came from a big imerialship and got in orbit and well landed vertical.

So basicully i want to give those legs a bit of an maybe liquid press system. Hmm hydrolics(word doesnt match the matter). because i cant animate and texture i will paint this model a bit and use wings a bit for next pictures when its landing and stuff in spring PASTED :D.

This part is troubeling me the most i think the model will do better withoud the nice radar
but i wanted to put up the something where that new radar is and next to it. I made a hole wich will look cool when planes coem out there too. On this picture also shows i need to make those feet a little practicle turneble in a way the model shows its possible. Well sorry for bad english.

I'm not sure how well the legs work; when it is landed, do the legs lower it down to the ground, or do they keep it up off the ground? If it stays off the ground, how do units get down once built?
Also, I think the sphere with the cylinders sticking out of it doesn't look very good, and is letting the rest of your model down.

Be nice;
I think his idea actually has a lot of potential; I can see what he is thinking. I do think the legs were a bit of a step in the wrong direction, but I think that if he worked on it solidly he would have a good entry. His imperial radar shows that he is a capable modeler, so he just needs to put his head down and refine the actual form of the design a little bit, rather then concentrating on the little slots that swap in and out.

I'll grab a screeny next time I'm on that computer, but basically the Space Maring building drop from orbit as a building on a pad on a cone, think like an ice cream cone, except the "ice cream" part is a building and some retaining superstructure, and the "cone" part burrows down into the ground early in the build animation. It sounds a little funky, but in game it really works nicely. Jack's first shot looks pretty similar.
PS- I didn't mean to bring this up negatively, IE "Jack stole his design from DoW", I meant to bring it up positively, IE "Jack's design is cool for the same reasons this other similar thing is cool."

Limited fire arc ANYTHING is awesome. Seeerious. I'm sure you probably have experimented with firing arcs, but I have a lot of experience too... need any help just say. And limited arc anti-air would work fine, I'd just say, use about 270 degree arcs so they can turn all but directly behind their starting position. That way you can have a large central structure that doesn't get gfx-clipped.Warlord Zsinj wrote:The refueling point sounds interesting. I'm not sure how well a limited-fire-arc AA weapon would work (honestly, I have no idea), that would require some testing, but could be pretty cool.
If you have time, some sketches of how the building functions as it works (building things, in the process of shooting, etc) would be a little more explanatory.
That design from the moddb guy is pure winnage.
