Since I can't see if this was answered in that huge flamewar:

The biggest lag I've noticed weapons cause is with explosions. I think that large explosions take some time to resolve because of all the units that are affected. The default explosion effect eats frames like mad, when Argh challenged me to a performance test of having 750 missiles fire at the same time the only major lag was when the shots impacted (especially with shadows enabled but since most people play with LOS view on at all times that's really no issue), this went away immediately when I set a custom explosion generator for the missile. Of course you CAN make megalag with a CEG if you use many and large particles but if you stay conscious of your particle count and use your textures wisely you can get a huge performance boost. Also the larger the default explosion was the more performance there is to gain, I've had single nuke-size explosions drop my framerate into the single digits with all that smoke and crap.

Purposes of the thread (review for the nubs in the audience):
1) Report bugs in BA (open to everyone)
2) Discuss balance in BA (open to known experts with sane opinions)
3) luls when sleksa makes fun of you for posting a stupid suggestion (open to everyone)

Also, people are welcome to offer new effects, unit models in the thread, however they are not welcome to argue with the creators when their offer is not accepted, they should go work on their own mod and make posts in their own mod's thread.

Kdr, I mentioned to them that it was more efficient esp in the comboom's case but I was pretty much blow off by the lot because they were more concerned about ego fits and getting pissed because suggestions were made. Honestly, I don't know if it would be worth the effort to bother with any suggestions as it is met with hateful resistance.

How times change! Seeing sleksa so active in this thread makes me understand why the other BA forum was made. I never saw its utility before.

And seeing Noize's utter silence makes me miss Caydr's long ramblings about balance metaphysics. AA may had many faults, but that god did answer our prayers. We just didn't like the answers enough.

Use a lower max particles setting. I modified quantum's FPS manager widget to include this (and I can send you the modified widget if his newest version doesn't include that).

Noize has a real life to attend to, and when he is working on BA, he sends lots of PMs to expert players.

And after he listened to your prayers you were bestowed with the gift of learning the new imba unit every 2 weeks.

would you like that?

i can make sleksa annihilation and generate random numbers every 2 weeks caydr style and we can have good old time and nobody will never complaing anymore and everyone will be happy (:DD)

I was told no by sleksa not noize. I left after I got an ok from noize to make a mutator with simple effects then came back and asked(NOIZE) what is the likelyhood of such a thing being used by him.

Rather than arguing with sleksa you could have gone directly to noize, and the thread would be shorter and more on topic...

Smoth, make something nice, esspecially DONT overdo it, we want simple but classy effects, no OMFGZOMGROFL MEGA HAX explosions. Also no cartoony style, no manga style, make it feel like TA.

I hope that you succeed, but this is not saying yes. I will only add it to the mod if me and day approve. I hope you can understand that. So if you still want to help out and make it like i imagine, then that would be appreciated, but if it turns out against my likings I hope you can then accept that I will disapprove. Ill await your answer.

Ground scars seem to be behind the worst FPS slowdowns in my experience with spring..


#2 is alot of airplanes

#3 is Nano particles

With ground scars though, the larger they are the worse the FPS drop.
