Re: Movie recommendation
Na Na watch his documentaries...
Just watched his film about an american pilot who was shut down over laos.
Its a documentary where he describes himself and the time he was captured in a POW camp...
Very good movie...
there is another famous one of his called "Grizzly Man" about a guy who lived with grizzly bears for more than a decade...
There is a new movie by him i really wanna see called "Cave of Forgotten Dreams".
Its about a cave that has the most anciant human paintings ever discovered, about 30k years old.
the cave is sealed most of the year to preserve it all and only a few scientists are allowed in for a few weeks per year...
In short I personally recommend the following films by him:
Grizzly man
Encounters at the End of the World
The White Diamond
Little Dieter Needs to Fly
also watch this:

Its not his movie but he is the narrator and its good....

Re: Movie recommendation
His documentaries are good, but Aguirre, the Wrath of God is his best work.
Re: Movie recommendation

I just watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was awesome!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI6CfKcMhjY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_9A-cUEJc
There were mermaids, more pirates, cools ships, a lot of terrific adventures, and Jack Sparrow! This is a great movie to watch.
If you want watch a movie that has an interesting message and is told from something other than a human's point of view and is interesting, I recommend Makoto Shinkai's movies like:
Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko (She and Her Cat)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF3xnov3Sgc
That's not something you see every day. It looks like something you'd see out of a fantasy movie.

He did a good narration of this film and I think that all f the photography and the point of the giant garbage pile in the ocean being brought up was good, but I didn't like that the main character was a grocery. This is like a great "save the earth" video, but a grocery bag is not a very interesting character. It wasn't a good choice of characters because people don't tend to really care enough about them to watch and be particularly interested in a video in which the bag is the main character.Gota wrote:also watch this:

Wau...Facepalm....Panda wrote:I just watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was awesome!
I really disliked this movie...
Its just dumb, badly written, not funny....
The only one worth watching IMO is the first...All others are just spinoffs.

Re: Movie recommendation
Ignoring the environmental message and judging it as film about a plastic bag I found it thoughtful, fun and unique. I don't think the message spoiled that.Panda wrote:He did a good narration of this film and I think that all f the photography and the point of the giant garbage pile in the ocean being brought up was good, but I didn't like that the main character was a grocery. I don't think that the message spoiled it either, I just wasn't all that interested in the plastic bag character. It was also a depressed bag that wished it would "die".
Re: Movie recommendation
!!SPOILERS!!!
but thats the whole point (to make bags biodegradable); death being an essential part of the cycle of life. its just like interview with a vampire!.. but with a.. plastic bag.

Re: Movie recommendation
I always held Takashi Miike in high regard although I haven't seen a lot of his movies. Well... I will have to correct my mistake cuz his latest creation made me want more.
13 Assassins is just... fucking good!
There aren't a lot of movies like that nowadays (at least I haven't seen any) and I don't mean just the swordfighting; its the whole setting. We had "Ninja Assassins" which had *AWESOME* swordsfighting which was really well shot. But why wasn't I entertained by it as much as I was by "13 A" ? I don't know, maybe it was the lack of plot.
It was fairly brutal but not unrealistic, no fountains of blood etc. Few severed hads, few severed limbs, few harakiris a usual day in the life of a Samurai
If you like this kind of stuff, go watch it. You won't regret it.
9/10

Re: Movie recommendation
Herzog films are highly recommendable, especially this one. Best documentaries are the ones that succeeds to represent more than just the object itself, to go deeper. 'Grizzly man' really does it in strange and fascinating way.Gota wrote: there is another famous one of his called "Grizzly Man" about a guy who lived with grizzly bears for more than a decade...
Re: Movie recommendation
PotC movies to me are visually great but are lacking in many aspects...
character development... plot consistency... i just couldn't find it. don't get me wrong, i haven't seen the latest, and i WILL watch it, but judging for the last few it'll be a case of eyecandy pushing aside all of the things that i really love about movies...
This film, despite its dazzling special effects, is devoid of originality, character and human values. It is the very embodiment of what is wrong with popular entertainment.
snagged this quote from rottentomatoes (its about the new one) and it sums up mostly what i felt about the other ones...
by summer blockbuster standards? excellent movies; but at the same time i can just wedge it in with independence day and other similar visual feedings; movies that i can get the full experience of by only half-watching. just depends on what movies you like really. i can see how people would enjoy them, which i myself cannot fully.
watched those herzog docs but not aguirre (will put it on my list)
edit: you know who could direct an awesome pirate movie? robert rodriguez.
