Another beautiful model. :-)
Perhaps I missed it, but what is this game based around? May I please have a link?

So, what do you get, when you combine a jet engine, hydrofoils, and explosive ordinance?

The Overmind's DeathSki.

Second experiment with the new technique I'm working on. Time to model, uvmap, paint, build normalmaps and integrate into UpSpring: < 3 hours. Feel free to bitch and moan as usual, but I won't care, because I will be doing a second game-ready model in the time it used to take to make one. Still working on some aspects of this technique to achieve a little better polish, but I am already pretty excited.

idem dito

On Argh's pretty nice model: Thought about putting the ski at the back? just a thought, because a rudimentary raindrop shape appeals more to me personally, and even caused me tot mistake its heading for a split second.
(no i'm being stupid because a ski is for gliding at high speed, ...but still...)

I like that one. The crits for the previous wasn't that the technique was crap, it was just that it was an ugly/uncool looking model. You can get away with models that look ugly/functional if they still look cool. That one... kinda didn't. And yeah; as Smoth said, that thing would fail at stealth. And how the hell would it turn?

@GMN: IIRC, they steer two ways: by decreasing propeller revolutions on one side (decreases speed, results in turn) or, if manuevering at low speeds, by reversing one of the props. So, it's basically like a tank, only a lot bigger.

And yes, it doesn't seem to be a design that's well-liked. Ah well, can't win 'em all. Expect more multi-hull designs, but I will work on the cool factor. The last thing I wanted, though, was stuff that looks like WWII with sci-fi greebles. We've seen it a million times, it's boring as hell, it's not anything like what the real future will look like, so I'm not doing that.

It's armed with torpedoes. The black wedges open to allow them to fire. It's hard to see from that angle, but it's just far enough off the water on the skis to allow them to clear.

I like the death ski thing, though I aint keen on an all torpedo compliment, all torpedo units never sat well with me, and players tend to avoid them as they cant defends themselves against things that are just on the shoreline.

Give it a weak surface weapon, a token weapon that does little or no damage even, you'll find people build it a lot more.

On a side note, is it me or are the smoothing groups on the rear centre cylinder not set? Could just be the lighting, but it looks like there are hard transitions.

Something I did in my spare time, nothing that would really fit into Spring though.

The back looks a bit bland. I based it off of the SPAS-12.

go suck a fuck. I already got in trouble for using colors and large font sizes with the forum moderators. If i cant use capslock or formatting, how do I make it clear that my text is more important than that of other people? Capslock is my last lifeline.
