Is that from the starcraft 2 artwork?

And argh, lua<->cob.

Also I couldnt find a tracked artillry that needed arms to deploy there, except the isreali Rascal

To prepare the vehicle for firing, two hydraulically operated spades are lowered into position to stabilise the vehicle.

Theyre not up in the air and theyre not taller than the unit itself.

Infact your design could be made more efficient still:

Many, many artillery systems have spades at the rear for stabilisation, AF.

My point was that there arent many that have deployment arms in mid air while being transported.

Modern weapons of the type FLOZi is describing can only fire in a very limited arc, AF. This mortar can fire in a 360 arc. Sorry, but until we have wedge-arc aiming, instead of cones, it was either an OnlyForward weapon, which has some rather large problems in terms of gameplay, or a full-arc weapon system. Therefore, I wanted arms that would provide recoil stability on all sides. That, and I just thought it looked cool, in a 40K'ish, "why would they ever do that... mmm, nvm, it looks cool" sort've way.

Now... here's an entirely realistic, ultra-modern tank:

Image

With a minimal profile, angled armor, small-form turret and electrically-driven bogie sections, this medium battle tank is designed to approach targets and engage them while hull-down. Carrying a gun using electrically-generated plasma to drive armor-piercing SABOT rounds from the 90mm main gun, this tank is well-equipped to engage any armored vehicle or light fortification.

In the future, AF, things may not look like they do now. If, for example, we had fusion reactors that were fairly small, we could build stuff like this- a modern tank is the result of modern engineering problems, starting with the sheer mass of the armor and the resulting motive power required. A tank without a human crew and with a more effective power source (as of this writing, purely electrically-driven AFVs are starting to enter test phases, btw) could look considerably different than a modern tank. I pretty much made this design to illustrate my point, really, but meh, it looks good, and I need a tank ;)

You're doing OK, but the proportion is slightly off on the front section- it's a little too wide. Otherwise, looks good.

If your going to go for that mindset then your trees are too small argh, they need to be at least 100x larger to reflect the size of the small robotic drones (scalable technology goes both ways and small cheap robots are more efficient than big expensive ones).

LOL! While that's somewhat tempting to actually put into the game design... er, I've already done swarms of drones, and I'd rather do something else this time :-)

the turret looks kind of stuck on can you see about making it look more like a part of the main body?

FIrstly, how would plasma work as a propellant short of making a coilgun on the tank? And secondly, why use sabots when you can either make a smaller barrel or use bigger ammo?
/nazi

Nice tank anyhow, although the shading looks a bit funky

Because SABOTs are incredibly effective armor piercers?

Very nice work Argh, nice sensible design. Its easy to make a fantastical looking unit as it requires far less consideration than designs like this. Looks very similar to those prototype 'future warrior' vehicles being developed today.

Textures are also good, i'd go so far as to say its one of the best around this forum. My advice on making it look more realistic is adding more subtle detailing, such as some rivets, grille vents commonly seen on tanks, and play with the reflection map to get some cool yet subtle metallic effects in Spring. :-)

I think I'd rather see rivets and stuff than those random "extruded" shapes.

Bah people, a SABOT is not actually a projectile, it is a casing around the projectile that is disgarded after the projectile leaves the barrel. Its only purpose is to allow non bullet shaped ammunition to be used..

Image

The arrow thing is the actual round, the wierd bar bell casing around it is the sabot..
