This sounds pretty cool, I'll have to give it a try.

I wonder if it's been ported to PSP or DS?

Can't port, he's sitting tightly on the source code... runs well in wine however.

Ha. You'd get 1-5 FPS. It takes some serious processor power to run DF.
Fast RAM helps a lot too.
EDIT:
On the subject of porting DF, a port to the Xbox 360 arcade would be nice. Triple 3.2 Ghz should run DF rather nicely. It might even be possible to max out the embark area and get a decent FPS.
If the 3rd party PS3 OS-es supported cell architecture fully, and DF was restructured specifically for cell architecture, that could run DF wicked fast.

If you memorize the hot keys, the interface isn't that bad.

I remember DF has a sort of rpg game in it as well.Where you have a single character.
I wanted to ask if there are any good text based rpgs with an open world.

you can maek dots and those dots do something which usually involves more dots and all the dots mean something different, thats all ive worked out so far...
