The fact that even trying to watch combat ensue is painul on my poor graphics card... Then the fact that the lower tiers are totally useless... I might as well just play Spring, have a fair choice of whatever balance I like and have it run at > 20 FPS

I didnt like supcom at all. Most games are too slow/laggy, you cannot play with high-pingers like in spring.
Lobby system and game starting sux too (you usually need several switches from lobby in windows up to game itself before you manage to actually play a game).

It puts insane load on CPU (making mid-late game unplayable on my 2500+ with GF6600GT and 2GB RAM).

I like some ideas from supcom. Like order queue showing estimated times of completion, air transports, group movement behavior and some map features.
But still it feels like ripped of game compared to spring - too simplistic, less features. Yeah nice gfx, but the older I get the less susceptible I am to shiny gfx.

In the first 3 weeks or so of supcom I played more games than almost every single other of the 4000 people signed up at the time and I dont recall a game running longer than 15minutes or so.

Maybe you thought it was porcey because you werent very good at it?

You mean in the first 3 weeks when most people (except handfull of TA/spring vets) were completely clueless of how it works?

As skill increases people learn to win without having to build alot of defence.

I would say if anything the early days would be more porcey.

The same is true of spring. The newer you are o the game the more porcy you play the game.

playing supcom reminds me of the sesame street episode where the cat has a can of beautful tasting and smelling fish catfoot, but cant open the tin, and spends the whole episode dropping the tin off high buildings and headbutting it. when its owner finally opens it, the cat is too tired to be bother.

I've bought it

Post by duncs »

ahaha. my flatmate asked me what I wanted for christmas.

so I said: SUPCOM PLEASE.

so she's getting me supcom. if you don't like supcom, don't buy it.

I realise it's not as fun as spring is right now, but the graphics are better and there's room for more stuff/mods than there is in spring... I think of it as a long term investment (for free, as my flatmate is getting it).

it also looks like it might be quite fun already but I have to get into it a bit more, I've only played a couple of games in the beta.

Cybran get the best T1, Which basically means that thier T3 is shit.

Meh. now I've actaulyl ended up playing people who don't just spam defences in chokepoints, It's actaually rather enjoyable.

Aparat from the fact most games eem to end with Titan assasins, T3 gunships assasins, Bomber assasins or boat assasins.

hm, I'm actually starting to agree. it's fun in some ways but others, not so much.

- put mass storage around the metal makers? wtf? micro micro!

- it's so slow

- it's a porcfest of note on the current build. I gave up last night after thinking: "screw this, neither side will win." because neither side could win.

- you are too zoomed out to see any graphics. playing not-zoomed-out is like playing spring too zoomed in, so that 3 units fit on the screen.

man, I hope the mods improve it. and I hope the single player campaign is fun. and I hope they make building AIs e.g. 'surround each mex with mass storage' ai.

I don't think manual building placement is bad micro, especially since it's not a given that you want storage around your MMs. I use generators more than storage.
