Indeed.
Gameplay>Graphics.
Most designers think "WOO SHIT BEST GRAPHICS EVER" Than can't be bothered to model more than one hyperquality unit and end up releasing a game with bugger all content and great graphics.
Sort of Like Perimeter tbh. The gameplay was bollocks. If they'd had desant AI, Good gameplay and indivdual units it might not of sucked so bad.

That's partially true. Pretty graphics can do a lot to the athmosphere but then again you'd have to determine what good graphics are. I'd say the effort counts.
So for instance I'd never (ever) touch a roguelike again but I'll happily play any square/enix SNES RPG you throw at me.
But there's one thing I noticed over the years: the better the graphics became the more the gameplay was slacking.

That game is win.
IT IS! Honestly, wtf is up with ANYONE who says morrowind was better, storyline, maybe. Gameplay, HELL NO! With physics and all, its even better, I can see my arrows in his face, and pull them out when I am done. When I slash at him, it hits...
Anybody who says morrowind in general is better than oblivion, is insane, or retarded... Maybe both...
I cannot agree with this "gameplay is slacking" assertion. The gameplay is improving all the time, we just don't see it because it's not quantifiable and our nostalgia makes older games appear better than they are. Most NES games, even the classics play like crap on a stick compared to modern games. Sure, the old games came first and some even pioneered their genre but since then gameplay has been improving making the modern entries into the genre simply better to the point where today's mediocre games beat yesterday's greatest.
Less unfair difficulty (especially of the try and die variety), save systems that let you save more often and reset less progress, controls that are responsive, much more variety (especially less copy&paste level design that was caused by cartridge memory limits, see e.g. Metroid or Zelda), no "guess what the designer wants you to do" puzzles, especially no walking through walls that have no clues about them being passable (and in the worst cases require jumping to find out they're passable), no getting stuck with no indicator that you're stuck and no chance to get unstuck because you missed an item in the first scene you don't need until the final scene, ...
There's been many changes between then and now.

Didn't say this applies for every game but a lot of games are just pretty and boring. Take Doom 3 for instance. Or take a look at the adventures Lucas Arts made or games running on the scumm engine in general, and compare them to those shiny 3D (almost action-)adventures.
What I meant was that a lot of game genres became less complex or simply lacked a lot of gameplay over older titles. Though it became better in the last two years.

Oblivion just wasnt challenging or as engrossing as Morrowind was.
I had about every quest for every guild done as well as the main story in about a week, as well as alot of obscure stuff like the daedric shrines. The only memorable thing about the whole game in my opinion was the Dark Brotherhood quests. The setting is boring, its just Hurr hurr knights in armor and the Imperial City.
Morrowind on the other hand kept me engrossed for months. It had a world that felt totally fresh from the very first town to the end. I finished morrowind almost 3 years ago and I still remember how awesome it was finially goind through the ghostwall into red mountain to kill the last boss. Frankly I can barely remember what happened at the end of oblivion and I played that in the last 4 months.
You should see the speedrun of MW. 7:30 minutes, IIRC.
