Felix: Do you really want deci to quit? He's covering the busiest timeslot as a moderator and he's largely doing a very good job of it. It's obvious people are calling for lighter moderation and I'm sure he's gotten the message. You learn by trial and error, if you expect all new moderators to start with and maintain a perfect record indefinately then you're really over the line (this is to everyone taking a stance against deci). We're developing moderating standards right now, there's no need to raise arms when a specific standard that is being trialed doesn't end up perfect. Realise we're all moderating based on the standards of the comunities that we came out of in the past, and some of those had very different rules then we will likely end up sticking with for spring client moderation.
Forboding: Good lord dude, tone the hostility down like 300 notches. I can appreciate your desire to defend your opinion but you're making massive backwards strides for this topic every time you make a personal attack rather then using evidence or logic when defending it.
Journier: Put the gas can away please, fuleing it isn't much more helpful then being it.
Betalord: Maby it's just me but it's quickly begining to look like this topic has outlived it's usefulness...
A slight moderation critique.
Moderator: Moderators
I believe Forboding is confused on his points and trying to make personal attacks is his stage exit.
I never try to ruin anyones time on spring EVER. If a mod doesnt want me to do something i wont do it, I understand warnings.
but all i ever do is chat in #Main, and obviously Forboding thinks that since i am chatting with others "who he obviously doesnt like"
that i am ruining other players experiences, he is sadly mistaken.
i havent heard but 3 complaints on what we chat about.
and to those 3 people I said ok im sorry.
so now i have my own chat room, all set up ready to go
type /join #main1 for talking in an unmoderated chat room.
that is now my new chatting area for things that the #Main doesnt want (swearing, off topic discussion etc") Anything goes, except spamming in which case i do call in Deci, or dave to boot.
I had 20 people in there the other night when i was advertising it etc.
Now i took one step to make everyone in the opposite party of this discussion happy.
I made my point and im going to drop this discussion before someone blows up again because they couldnt handle the pressure.
thanks to any mods for there help etc.

No, I do not want Deci to quit. However, I don't want to hear bitching about how tough and how horrible the job of moderator is. If he finds it to be a tough, horrible bitch of a job, then he is very welcome to resign, and live a happier life for having gotten rid of his tough, horrible, bitchish job. There are many others who would not find moderation to be this undesireable job and who would make perfectly fine moderators, and I'm sure one of these others could take his place.SwiftSpear wrote:Felix: Do you really want deci to quit? Forboding: annoyance is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see how you're so annoyed with simple chatting so as to request for me to be perma-muted (or whatever other punishment you want). I do see how linking tubgoil is grounds for consequences, and indeed, those consequences were delivered. I do see how evading a mute is grounds for consequences, and I don't believe that any consequences were levied for Journier's mute evasion. However, my sole purpose in talking in #main is not to amuse you. It is to amuse myself by talking to others, primarily in a respectful, halfway sane manner. However, if talking to others in a not altogether sane manner - though not offensive or otherwise rude manner - amuses me temporarily, I'm likely to partake in the odd discussion. In no way, shape, or form do I particularly care about your annoyance. We are all on the #main chat by choice. In fact, did you know that you can close #main so as to not be annoyed by others talking to each other? It's true.
Annoyance is in the eye of the beholder. If the beholder is annoyed by simple chatting, then I would point to the beholder as the one with the issue, not the chatter. When the discussion enters into rudeness, extraordinary lewdness, or insults, however, I would think that those chatting would have the problems - as they ended up having with the tubgoil links.
In fact, surprisingly, I rather agree with what moderation happened in this instance. Discussion was going along in a manner that was not excessively vulgar, rude, or insulting; no moderator action. Discussion becomes excessively vulgar (tubgoil); moderator action ensues. Seems fine with me.
To summarize the entire second half of my post in one statement: I don't understand what your problem is, Forboding.

I'm pretty sure he can't.
However, I don't see any reason for a lock. There haven't been too many flames in the thread and it seems that a healthy (if borderline heretical) discussion on moderation is going on. That is, if you take Tired's trolling, Forboding's trollfeeding, and smoth's blatant leetism out of the picture. (But then we're left with... the first page of the thread? If that?)

I guess it's a bit late now, but anyway ..
About all the moderation critiques, from now on if you have any complaints about any moderator, send it to springlobby@clan-sy.com, any threads like this will be removed, since moderation is not a democracy and decisions of moderators should be followed regardless if you agree with them or not since there is nothing to agree to, you don't do the moderating. I've put up some guidelines for moderators, we are also puting up private forum for all moderators. With next update it will also be possible to moderate private channels for anyone, so you don't have to join #main anymore if you think you can't follow some common sense rules.
