Do what sinbad did and skin the asteroids with non blocking features, or at least features that resemble the bottoms of the asteroids

honestly my idea relies on the only ground being hidden entirely within a passable feature and making all units either floating, underwater, or sea plane versions of themselves...

then, you would have special "asteroid installation" style buildings that would be just normal land model buildings with 3D models that stick out of the asteroid. so a mining installation would be have just big enough a ground plate to fit on the tiny bit of land inside an asteroid, but it's model would make it look like it was on the outside of the asteroid.

My new idea is even crazier, make ALL buildings buildable on water, and make the entire map be voided water, then float blocking features over top of spots where you have metal on the metal map, because metal extraction is a cylinder not a sphere any floating metal extractors (you would need to make them) close enough to the asteroids marking the metal spots would harvest metal.

Actually those strange edges on the asteroid will disapear if you turn on shadows (or if it was reflective water) I think, the two modes uses somewhat different approaches for clipping the below water ground.

i will not change the entire mod balance only cause of a map -.-
Think of big battlestations which would be spammable over the whole map. Orbital Res Centers or the small orbital metal makers wouldnt be any special. Sorry, that is not a good idea in my eyes.
I will test SJs theory and check if the edges will disappear when turning off shadows (or reflective water).
If all doesnt work, i think its best to make it the way i wanted to make it at the beginning with a pattern on the ground.
The next map will perhaps be with platforms where i can make a skybox without these problems, but slowly i really begin to hate making maps (an hour for compiling and then you notice things like that).
