Min3mat, I have spent some hours outlining how these features could be implemented, as have several others here.

Even if no-one able to do this comes forth due to other pressures, the amount of theory involved in this thread makes fascinating reading (even if, personally, I don't understand a lot of it).

Perhaps you should think carefully about this, registering the effort involved before putting your two pennorth in... Understand I'm not getting at you, it's just that such comments have been known to start flamewars in the past and, as they seem to be an increasing problem, I'd like to get past my first few weeks here without being in one.

These are all great ideas, guys, good going! Using this feature real tunneling could be implemented by causing the 'digger' unit to spawn the 'tunnel' feature as it moves below ground. It would need dedicated above and below ground behaviourals to do this though, otherwise it could create a tunnel just because of a small hill or clipping something.

As to how any of this could actually be done, well, beyond me. But at least we know it's possible.

My thought was this wouldnt be doen through multiple heightmaps but by pullin the unit down onto planes labelled as blocking, such s unti faces, or the ground. Multiple heightmaps would inccur other problems and other logics.

Ahk I'm getting a little befuddled now.

There are so many ways this could be done... I just wish I understood half of them.

It occurs to me that if the TA:S team ever planned on selling Spring, the option is kinda gone now. So many people in the community have done something or other for the engine, or designed a new unit for the game (the Raven springs to mind) that it would be a betrayal of them.
