Technological people have been using better tools ten years before. Those so called Web 2.0 thing only own their success due to non-technological people using them en masse because they don't know any better. And I'm pretty sure other technological people share this distate of facebook, twitter, and the like. They're used by non-computer-savvy people, maybe by wannabee-geek, but not by true computer nerds.
What better technological tools? I don't think that my professor knew of any and I think that my current professors still don't really know of any better tools or how to use them at all.

I don't think that most of the people that I know who are Biology majors or Education majors are interested in aspiring to be labeled true computer nerds. They just want to know how to use technology enough to do their biology or education work.

How old are you?
Im 25.
And I know enough people that dont use social networks or who left them because they dont want their data collected.
Im not naive you are when you give up your privacy step by step and dont think about it.
I didn't give up my privacy step by step. I haven't even given up my privacy to the extent that people who have their own homepages (to show to employers) or run their own websites do.

The part of what I said that you skipped over or ignored when making this response,
Panda wrote:It's a matter of weighing the options.
was an important part of that post. Please don't pick up any of Yan's habits if you aren't Yan. His illiteracy, at times, has me convinced that he really did just crawl out from under a bridge and start making posts on the forum.

I'm sure that the people that you knew didn't want to put up with participating in the social network any more. I stopped using Twitter after the class was over because I didn't feel like messing with it either, but what would you advise that a student who goes to a Tech School or a university that is completely online do? What about people who have their own web pages and show it to all of their friends and employers in order to help themselves obtain good jobs? What about bloggers? They have a lot of private information on their web pages too. Do you think that they are all just thoughtlessly putting their personal information out there?

What indication is there in my post that makes you think that I just gave up my privacy without thinking about it? Of course I thought about my privacy and I read and followed the rules of using Twitter. Finally, if all you can think of in response to my post is to call me naive instead of a descent response, perhaps one that takes into consideration these or some other relevant issues, go sit in the corner like a little 10-year-old and don't talk to anyone. Ignoring these other questions won't help anything and neither will saying that people should just not join social networks.

zwzsg wrote:Until last week, I didn't mind getting photographed, as I reasoned that anyway, as long as no one knows me, these photos wouldn't be tagged with my name.

Then I realised that image search engine are becoming a reality. A few years from now, it may be possible to input an ID photo in google search query and find all photo matching that face.

So now I just swiftly flip my back everytime I see a phone or camera being aimed.
I just get nervous in front of cameras and often can't just avoid them. Smoth took a picture of me while I was sleeping before because he thought I looked cute. People often do that kind of thing and good pictures are nice to have, so I'm not really bothered by it. I'm also trying to not be so nervous when I know that someone's pointing a camera at me. Being nervous in front of a camera is just a reaction that I've had to cameras since childhood.

I like to flip through pictures nice pictures of different places or of my friends and I think that it's kind of sad that you avoid taking pictures and give up your freedom to do so because of the internet. People shouldn't be so controlled by a fear of someone using a picture of them off of the internet to do something like get them fired the way the lady in this article was. That's how rights get taken away.

your way of argumentation does not make sense.
"if everyone jumps out the window, do you think they are all wrong? i do not think so!"
in nazi germany, you could have argued that killing jews is OK, with the same reasoning.

this is an argument:
computer nerds have a very high rate of non-facebookers, they might know stuff that the rest does not.

having a personal webpage, if it is custom made, is usually more private then using facebook or whatever of these things, even though the difference is marginal.
why: think about the difference of scanning for "drink" or "alcohol" on the facebook "hobbies" field, and on a custom webpage.

That means nothing or everything no wonder you like that sentence.
Maybe you should highlight the important sentences in your novels with red color.

Tech students definately should tweet to all their friends that they just had a very smelly fart.

I would advise people searching for a job to show their diplomas to their future employers not some self made homepage its not too original anymore.

Also I dont think an own homepage is as stupid as joining facebook where its very obvious that the only purpose is collecting data, putting it in a database and analyse it, sell it etc thats how these things are financed.

Justifiying social networks.
Panda wrote: Ignoring these other questions won't help anything and neither will saying that people should just not join social networks.
People just arent aware that they post their stuff for everyone to see.
Would you put an insert in the nwespaper with you wairing a pirate hat drinking?
Probably not because its stupid.

No question thats no reason to fire anybody and the boss is an asshole but if she hadnt postet that he would have had to find some other reason.

wikileaks and finally some of the most interesting revealings:

Best case, allied units enter a village, to defend a local policechief against insurgents, sounds simple? Is not, because the local policechief is heavily abusing his power, and created the local resistance by robbing and raping, so who is in this town your enemy? The unpolitic locals? Or the official allys of the afghanistan police and army? Or nobody of those two? You are free to choose how to loose, man what a mistake we germans got into that swamp... hope we are out, before india and pakistan start to nuke each other..

@ Hoijui and Machete234: Baww? Having trouble drawing conclusions based on alternative explanations? CanÔÇÖt have a good conversation without arguing? You two forgot to take your ADD medication didnÔÇÖt you? Someone should contact your parents and doctors about that. Improper usage of medication can be dangerous.

Honestly, I donÔÇÖt really get these continual and irrational Jew bashings either (The way that Machete234 was doing.). I donÔÇÖt even know any Jews. The area in which I live is mainly comprised of Catholic Americans and I liked reading the story of Ann Frank.
