Could you at least add some extra ranks? I feel like I'm playing for nothing :<

I have not read all this crap as a heads up. TLDR.

I think you are being VERY hypocritical. You whine about balance, baww i want fair balanced games. Which is understandable and fine. BUT.....you have smurfed many times, i remember playing a game of nota after i cam back from Hawaii. What i thought was me and a clanmate against a skilled player and a noob (I started the game slowly, taking it easy for i thought if i am to harsh the noob will be driven away).a few minutes into the game, im thinking, jesus this noob uses alot of a certain unit 123v loves. five minutes later i am dead. I get the story from the skilled player, the "noob" was 123v, smurfing as a SINGLE CHEVRON.

Smurfing is the single worst issue in game balance. The auto balance uses rank as a judge of skill, if it sets up one stars with experienced players to balance things up, but the one star is actually a platinum star smurfing, balance is fucked up. It may be shocking, that the lead advocate for better balancing is very guilty of this shenanigans , but it IS true. I for one have had a smurf that i have used to play with for this reason, i cannot stand smurfs. Smurfs can also lead to clan issues.

If there is a justified reason then ofcourse it is acceptable, but you should make it clearer before game. if there is reason i apologies for this attack.

also, why did you use my (the nota) forum for PYB >___>

TLDR.

SMURFING BAD FOR GAME BALANCE, 123v SMURFS ALOT. HYPOCRISY?

I like to have something to aim for ^_^ I'm smurfing more often now cause I feel like my ingame time actually counts towards something like a big load of "WOW HE'S VET PRO".

Crowd-sourcing player ratings. I really like this idea. It has some promise, since it can be gamed in much the same way that spam gets onto Digg (get a bunch of friends to help you). But in general it's really cool.

Would require some infrastructure in the lobby server though (and also some code for auto hosts)
if you wanted to get all fancy and write some autohost LUA script that would parse the damage dealt log of each completed game, calculate the percentage of time that any given player was leading the graph, 2nd place, 3rd place, etc, then accumulate a rating derived from that, that would work pretty well.
Your first idea is actually better than this.

I rarely ever post on these forums but heres my 2cents.

Simply removing cbalance from autohosts is a rather dumb idea as it defeats the point of having clanmates altogether. It is not the stacking that is causing the problems here it's the maps your teaching the newbies on. I personally started playing in early 06, when DSD/Tabula etc porc etc did not exist, we had comet and altored etc. You may say 'oh wow what's your point altered is porc' and well you will be right... with the catch being that the maximum players ever playing were 5v5 which isn't all that bad. Recent overcrowding of popular maps is just destroying 50+% of newbies ability to learn the dynamics of an active game.

Example: I'm not a fan of 8v8 DSD games really so I hosted a 4v4 (the way it was designed to be played). I teamed up with a clan mate and 2 alright ranked players as the game was filled with high ranked players. Low and behold 10 mins into the game the player below me has moved a whole 30 yards and has 3 mexes 6 solars and is building a T2 lab. Seriously it's not the newbies faults or the clan stacking that's leading to shit balance here it's the inability of the spring community to mix up games and game sizes. I know nothing I say will ever stop this DSD has been spammed since 07 and it's not going to change.

I agree that these big 8 v 8 porc fest games are really teaching anything useful. However, I grew up on SpeedMetal :D Steve Z grew up on Speedball :D So really, I think it's down to the players themselves.

The problem is not overpopulated games ruining spring skill, the problem is that most players are fucking morons.

Honestly, I don't see any changes happening to the balance options or the formal ranking system. Just evaluate people as you meet them, as you rationally should - rely on your own judgment. Hunterw does it, I do it, and most people who I can pick out of the masses do as well.

it rarely if ever happens in CA

and very often even clan stacked teams get beaten because in general the average CA player is quite competent compared to noobfest 8v8 BADSD.

an 8v8 in CA is generally a well contested contest regardless of players/clan.

Playerstack might happen because ranks arent entirely indicative of skill. But still most games are closely contested

But i seen LCC get beaten by clanless peeps :P. UoY get beaten , Pink get beaten, CAT (tho apparently not a clan) get beaten.

all on a rather regular basis.

Im glad that CA has a good (in terms of skill) playerbase id take them over 6 times the amount of noob players any day.

Its a mod/player skill problem that inflicts BA

I think alot of the converted BA players play CA now not just because of the mod but because of the better skill levels in general.

CA doesn't have the (size of) playerbase to have clan-stack issues.
