Re: Spring secretly force people to be illegal!
if your intentions were serious, you could have simply PM'ed licho instead of starting this drama thread
Re: Spring secretly force people to be illegal!
Now that I see what that thread has become, I wish I had.
But between just me and Licho we could have missed some idea, and this issue is a bit complicated: I can see the reason why Licho did that: Tons of newbs gets the error about missing cursor and then just leave without ever turning back, while if they have the files, they might get the chance to play Spring at least once and immediatly get blown away and stay forever. So just plain removing the files isn't an ideal solution, I hoped that by discussing it openly we could share more practical solutions than just burning TA mods at the stakes.
As for the title and tone of first post, I guess I was a bit angry from having just found out I had been about to make people outside Spring download stuff they shouldn't.

BA, XTA and CA can include the content and this entire issue could be avoided.

Hiding behind a white flag won't save you. Stealing is stealing. Look at all the things microsoft has crushed to protect their IP, do you really think that more than a few of the projects they crushed could have really hurt microsoft?adin_panther wrote:lulz

Re: Spring secretly force people to be illegal!
If Cavedog ever did somehow care enough (maybe they get sick of forb sending them letters or something) to go after *A based mods in spring the players wouldn't immediately be lifted from their blanket of ignorance and all stay to play whatever half finished GPL mod was available in its place, they'd leave or move to a 3rd party hosted server that offered freedom to use OTA based mods.
Not that it'll ever happen, the worst I imagine is them insisting the site owners remove references to 'Total Annihilation' from spring.clan-sy.com.
What I really came here to post was that the next BA will include all relevant OTA content, so that problem is taken care of :)

au contraire, you seem to be mistaken. Here are 2 separate (pretty short) articles I have written on the subject. One about 7 months ago, the other is from jsut a few days ago.

Re: Spring secretly force people to be illegal!
That answer is kinda missing the point. It should instead says: No, technically you don't need to own Total Annihilation to play Spring, all the necessary data is already included.Forboding Angel wrote:http://www.springinfo.info/?p=139

It addresses the big picture as a whole.
Re: Spring secretly force people to be illegal!
Nobody cares much about the big picture though.
People just want a quick answer to know if they should or should not download it.

The hell ? I never said that. That whole paragraph was about the moral shit. Of course that does not stop them, never did, but that was not my point either.Forboding Angel wrote:Hiding behind a white flag won't save you. Stealing is stealing. Thanks to me =pzwzsg wrote:As for a website, all the mods you mentionned except KP have one.

I think it's the opposite way round. Most ppl care about the big picture, but don't care much about the details.Gota wrote:Nobody cares much about the big picture though.
