New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Moderator: Moderators
slight OT here but would it be possible to build an "Offline Installer" version of the new installer that would allow me to burn a DVD with the mods I want on it and reference the local folder to reference instead of a website... seems trivial... if not treat this as a suggestion for future versions.

Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
What's the deadline?
Where mods will be hosted?
How does it handle mods made of multiple file, like, if currently I have a mod made of three *.sd7 but later change it to one sd7? Or maybe I just upload a zip file of all sd7 and the installer unzip them?
Where's the precise spec of what you need exactly?

Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Well, because of delays with spring, I think Sunday night is probably a good deadline now. Mods will be hosted on one of the UF mirrors, but you need to send all of the files to me, along with a description of where they should be installed. You should send me the files I'll actually be installing, not a zip. If you change the number of files, that would require a recompile of the installer, which is more difficult that updating the mod within the same files.

If you can do it with only GPL / CC or other free licensed content you could upload the ISO file to a bunch of popular bit torrent sites to promote Spring.SinbadEV wrote:slight OT here but would it be possible to build an "Offline Installer" version of the new installer that would allow me to burn a DVD with the mods I want on it and reference the local folder to reference instead of a website... seems trivial... if not treat this as a suggestion for future versions.
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
I dont think that would be wise just yet. We don't want multiple installers floating around torrent sites anyway so we'd best have an installer version checker saying "Ahem 0.8 was released a month ago. get it here...." etc
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Not sure Boirunner has already sent you the files, and anyway I changed alot of tiny things I'm sure he hasn't:
Here are the files for Kernel Panic:
\mods\Kernel_Panic.sd7 (2.3 MB)
\mods\Kernel_Panic_Evilless.sd7 (0.002 MB)
\maps\Marble_Madness_Map.sd7 (0.012 MB)
\maps\Direct_Memory_Access_0.5c_beta.sd7 (0.065 MB)
\maps\Direct_Memory_Access_0.5e_beta.sd7 (0.065 MB)
\maps\Major_Madness3.0.sd7 (0.286 MB)
\maps\Speed_Balls_16_Way.sdz (3.6 MB)
\AI\NTai\Kernel_Panic.tdf
\AI\NTai\configs\Kernel_Panic.tdf (not the same)
Total: < 6.4MB

Based on Division Zero

Included an eviless mutator that:

Remove the hacker side

Remove the NX flag

Remove the Terminal
So that the only changes between eviless 1.5 and eviless 2.0 should be that the Byte traded its custom damage for more hp, the GUI is prettier, and the pointer aiming code changed.

Made ONS a "mod option" (available in both /0 and evilless), off by default

Tested with SVN Spring

Version name are in the tdf and not in the filename.
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Yeah, the DVD would have to have a version number and a website page plus functionality for checking for an updated version when installing. Also, the DVD installer should at least have the option to install OTA mods / content off the net.AF wrote:I dont think that would be wise just yet. Maybe include some Ogg format GPL / CC licensed music too? Assuming that everyone can agree on a few tracks for the default Spring soundtrack. I think Nexuiz and Warsow have soundtracks right?
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Some of the OTA music should be freely available in some form albeit not all of it.
For example one of the construction tracks in supcom is eerily close to an OTA track only re-recorded with several differences.

Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Thank you zwzsg. Just as an update: I am still waiting on final release versions from XTA, s44, and Simbase.
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
Has the version tag been implemented in Spring, or shall I just leave the version in the mod name?
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
See AF's posts it has been implemented. (Also, I will be removing any version names in the filenames anyways, so don't bother to put it in the filename.
Re: New Spring Installer with Downloadable Content
I think he means in spring.exe when you manually start and you'd end up seeing 5 identical XTA entries for each version installed
