And Spring-craft works Fine, also might show-up on google when they do stuff like "SC crap" :D
Don't know what to quite make, the marine/Firebat/medic/Ghost.
I am currently Making a Colony thingie, Colony Center .
Other then that, I have made a missile tower, and Recently "Thanks too Snipawolfs tut" I can attempt to UV map now.

Its really, really not very hard to come up with an original concept inspired by another source. You can copy the gameplay as much as you like if thats your objective (Id advise against it, the spring engine is ill suited for a rock-paper-scissors, limited resources game that makes no use of a physics engine).
For theme though, avoid all the issues and go for something new-ish. Look at Starcraft. Its WH40k. Protoss = Eldar. Zerg = Tyranid. Terrans = Space Marines/Imperial Guard.
And the Eldar are just Elves (Which go back to mythology), the Tyranids are Xenomorphs from Aliens, and the Space Marines are just Medieval knights in space suits.
Everything comes from something else, but that doesnt mean you cant be a bit origional.

If I remember, 1 of the guys at GW explained it to me one time.
The Space marines are like a combo of medieval knights, with their armour, and honour, and the SAS. Elite soldiers, capable of incredible heroics, who won't retreat without a good reason.

Boltguns actually (in the case of 40k SM) which according to the fluff is actually more like a bullet sized rocket than a bullet.BlackLiger wrote:With machineguns...

and as for retreating, they dont, unless its to achive a strategical or tactical objective (that bugged me about Dawn of War, Space Marine Squads are NEVER supposed to break)

They retreat in tabletop also. It's not they won't retreat, it's they won't retreat unless the odds of winning suggest that falling back would present an advantage. And yes, but it's a solid slug with a rocket engine on the back, .45 calibre. Hence, it's more or less a bullet with a rocket engine.Pressure Line wrote:Boltguns actually (in the case of 40k SM) which according to the fluff is actually more like a bullet sized rocket than a bullet.BlackLiger wrote:With machineguns...

i lost my 40k rulebook in a house flooding a few years ago
but i do have a SM Codex somewhere (and a Land Raider on my desk) but iirc the standard bolt shell is explosive tipped. and again, iirc, the SM special rule is "Never Fall Back" SM squads never retreat unless you specifically move them to do so.
oh, and;

sorry for off topic, but:
Boltguns fire a bullet-type projectile, that, once clear of the barrel ignites its propellant rocket and gains slight seeking/trajectory changing capabilities. The round is armour piercing and explosive, triggered by sensing a sudden increase in local mass. Its a rapid fire, seeking, armour piercing RPG.
AFAIK starcraft was originally going to be a WH40K license, but GW pulled their backing from the project, as they did with WC because they didnt like the cartoony feel. Not sure where I gained this impression from tho...

Sorry for retaining a link to the off topic comparison between *craft and 40k, but I find this quite interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Chambers
(Admittedly he didn't join in 2003, but still :) )
In regards to bolters and marines, if you read through all the white dwarfs and different versions of 40k that have ever come out, you'll most likely find plenty of conflicting descriptions of how weapons worked and the like.

Win, I do it. My game is loosely based on my favorite universe, but I have only a few similar units. I can make whatever I want.Jaho101 wrote:It's as similar to 40k as it is to Starship trooper. But, shouldn't you guys just try to make your own IP? Great deal more fun I'd think, you can have it loosely based on SC but, be creative too.
