A: LESS PHALLIC

B: make the main gun thicker, it looks like it'll fall off at the slightest gust.

C: Capitalize on its "springy" feel. Add more hydraulics, along with some knees, so it looks like it's bounding over the landscape. I am not the only one that needs to think more about how their units move.

Rebuild the legs, so that it can walk properly. If it's just going to fly around on jets, it doesn't need legs at all.

It just needs a proper joint at the knee- a piston there won't work, it'll clip into the main body a lot during the walk-cycle.

I know you like the piston concept- use it lower, on the ankle area or something. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a poor fit for the body design. Use those legs for something else. Or redesign the body, so that its not a 360-degree turret. That's the other choice.

judging by the design,it's the CA pyro, and the pistons are to help it jump. Maybe separate them from the legs (IE an extra pair of pistons)?

Do jumpers walk at all, or just hop?

They walk - they just can jump short gaps when ordered to do so.

@mk:
A: get your mind out of the gutter.
B: yeah, i'm scrapping the gun.
C: i will try to make it more springy :P

@argh: It is aimed at the pyro, which has been stated before is a walker that can have the ability to jump. It will be walking most of the time, the one screenshot was just an idea of how it would use its thrusters to jump.

It is a heavier counterpart to the bandit, so I tried to keep some semblance to the piston legs, which work fairly well ingame. (What do you mean "walk properly" btw? Does the bandit walk improperly? )

The legs do not clip, except in maybe extreme situations (the animation could use some polishing, it's not perfect)
With the raised back it is very unlikely that any clipping issues will occur on this model especially when it is firing, as the top half of the head raises. (The only time its head would be turned would be if it was firing)

Thanks for the suggestions! :-)

It's an artillery-dragging truck thingy!
But, for all I know, it could be called the "Arty the dragger-fragger."

It's a very pretty model, can't wait to see how you skin it. :P

 Well you're on the right track.

Doubt I'll ever skin it. But hopefully like the middle one here http://www.capub.eu/media/AW%2003%2039.jpg

I actually dont know if spring can do non-square unit textures.

well opengl can handle them fine, i'd be suprised if spring enforced a square format. it just uses DevIL for reading textures doesn't it?

Update: it reads nonsquare textures no proble.

having troubles with exporting my UVs though,

Image

ingame shot looks almost perfect, but the texture messes up around where the jets are attached, think this is caused by noncontiguous UVs, need to work on my blender exporter a bit more to solve this problem.
