Needed to dig this up to redownload the latest upspring. I suggest it be stickied, or otherwise be linked too in a clear modding tools post that is updated with this (apologies if this is already in existence).

One last minor complaint - models exported for UVmapping or saved as OBJ or 3DS lose there smoothing, which is a bit annoying if you are combining two s3os together, as you have to re-weld the one you are adding in.

When I use objs that include normals calculated in Blender the resulting model won't light properly (the normals seem to be zero or very close to it) until the normals are recomputed. I mean, it's not bad for the loli mod but I'm not sure if it's the intended behaviour.

Only an issue if you don't export the vertex normals into the obj

Actually it's only an issue if I DO export the vertex normals...

Anyway, Smoth found out that the normals are crippled by scaling. Please give us a renormalize normals button (since recompute will kill our hard edges).

Oh and for peet's sake don't make it mandatory on each transformation, I quite like the result the bug gives for stuff that should look celshaded.

When hiding the grid the light source gets offset by a fair amount (probably to the center). It's kind of annoying because I'd rather leave the grid hidden and use shading to see the glow map working.

This reminds me to ask again about renormalize vertex normals and apply scaling/rotation.

++ to Rattle and KDR's bug reports. Especially the normals bug. I'm a huge fan of using the recalculate normals stuff to put sharp edges on things, or smooth things, though, so please don't break that, it's been working great since 1.54 and I love it ;)

Also:

1. Could it please add the file extensions to files, when saving? Having to type it manually every time is annoying.

2. Could it maybe save the last-used directory for Unittextures? I have to set it manually every time I use it.

3. It doesn't support DDS DXT5 or DXT1 correctly as Texture1. Draws black. If you want examples, I can make you one. Spring supports both just fine, so this is a very minor quibble.

Unfortunately im very busy with real life stuff.
That and ofcourse, polygon smothing will have priority when it comes to upspring ;)

Resizing has an inverted effect on normals...

Isnt there a renormalize normals function?

I think the point is that it shouldn't be needed.

For example, when making a piece of toast, the toaster slices your toast into a thousand pieces.

To fix the toaster do you:

A) Use the built in glue gun to re-assemble your toast after its made every time

or

B) Remove the slicer

There are several functions to rebuild normals, however they all break my smoothing groups.

jelmer, if someone trips on their shoelace, and jokes about it when theyget up, do you smile or do you call them a smartass? Do they punch you in the face afterwards for it?

Your analogies are really awful. That doesn't even apply.
