Yeah school is my first priority, but it's going really well, so I can't complain. The reason why I'm not really motivated to model is becaus usually when I'm done with everything (that includes eating, ect) it's about 08:00-08:30, and then I just want sit on the couch and do nothing :P

Another thing is that I also found a new hobby, which is composing music, which also takes a lot of time.

But the hardest period is over, this is the last part of the year, with lots of days and even weeks off, so I have more time :)

If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

The texture looks incomplete to me, also you can fit this in a 128x256 without losing much. I'd like to see the UV coords. Also that nose looks rather weird, kind of like a cylinder cap.

correct on all assertations, the texture is incomplete, and i'll be the first to admit i wasted space on my uv coords. *edit* this tex is a bit misleading, a fair amount of the "dead space" contains coords as well.

that been said, it's my first try at seriously trying to make a unit for spring; i learned a fair amount and saw some mistakes that i made after the fact and will rectify them in the next model.

thx for the kind words, sirs!

If you optimise the uv and then make the texture smaller it'd be even better

I don't like the white blurring effect (between the cockpit pod and the main fuselage pod) that divides the yellow stripe running along the spine of the plane - it's abrupt and jarring.

That being said, you're making this for an RTS, right? Which means you've got about a hundred other units to do. Stick a fork in it, it looks good enough for prime time. It's pretty, it's good to go.

I very much like it, and would be eager to see a step-by-step guide on how you made that texture. :-)

The same applies for Stormsiege's texturemap.

yeah that blend looks funky, but from the above shot it seems to have disappeared ingame... certainly i'll avoid that kind of strange attempt at highlighting in future.

the uv map, it was my first try using mirroring... i think it turned out pretty decent, but it was one of those things where i was texturing and realized i had made some fairly crappy choices for the layout and it was a bit late to go back without redoing other things as well... was pretty happy with it but then looked at one of smoths textures to try to learn how to teamcolor and saw how much more i could have done.

overall, i was really sort of trying to get through it quickly and spend only a few hours on modelling and texturing the entire unit, which i managed to accomplish, so thats a win... again, thanks for the kind words.

midknight: i left you a very basic tut of how i try to save time on textures in your thread.

KaiserJ, just wanted to chime in and say 'nice job'! I liked the spaceship.

You mention "mirroring". Does that mean you use the same texture twice, for two parts of the model that are mirror images of each other? (Seem so from the texture, as certain features like wings of the ship only appear once)

Anyway, such mirroring sounds like a clever feature to use, if for nothing else, it makes more economical use of the UV space!

Yeah, I agree, that unit is actually quite clever.

Still needs work on the geometry and detail, but it shows given a bit of practice you could be a very useful modeller.
