Full power to the engines!

Jason looked around the combat area and was at a loss. The records showed two HEPE signatures. Then one of them dissapeared, and a few moments later the second one had gone as well. That was what they could see of the actual battle. The aftermath...well...it was a bit more complicated. Jason was currently standing in a perfect circle cut in a metal wall. It was a perfect circle that could only have been created by either a precision cutting laser, or a matter neutralization field. And from the burn marks and the reported bright flash from the three people who had been near the battle, the latter seemed most likely.

He looked at the corpses, or the white chalk outlines that had replaced them. The actual corpses had been hauled away, most in very small body bags. The police had done the best they could to not disturb the shell casings, but it was apparent that they had surrounded one target and poured fire into the wall. Most of the bullets had gone wide, but many had sent S-02 grit flying. Jason moved slightly so a haz-mat team could start to put the S-02 in vacuum jars. Now this was all well and good. But the ZX-74's were obviously of marine origins, and to make matters worse, they were still marked as being present in the armory's on the Hannibal.

Jason frowned, trying to put the pieces together in his mind. Eve had vanished, as had Michelle. Michelle had been hiding in the Heart of Gold as a whore, of all things. That was something that continued to irritate Jason's mind, tickling his paranoia slightly as it did so. He knew that, if he were in Michelle's position, he wouldn't have debased himself like that. There had to have been an easier way to disguise oneself, without even shape shifting. And she must have known that they would find her as soon as someone with a scanner ran a HEPE sweep.

Then there was Troy, the late gangster. He had amassed a large power base, a rather large mystery. But that question had been answered when the police had tracked down a second house owned by him. Inside they found a huge cache of illegal drugs, mind scans and even a 'furry'. Jason's mouth quirked. Troy had...odd tastes in genetically engineered women. The furry had talked her mouth off, glad to finally see someone to let her out. What she would do now was a mystery to Jason, as furrys had been bred for one purpose. The information she had given them was enough for Jason to piece together a worrying story. Troy had spent his time in the half year it took Homeworld to fall, gathering illegal paraphernalia. He had used it to buy a ticket on the Prometheus, though someone who would trade a place on the one surviving light hugger in the system for an illegal mind scan didn't really deserve the seat in the first place.

So Troy had risen to power and had bumped into Michelle. She had solicited his support, with ways that Jason didn't care to contemplate. Then Michelle had led Eve to this...trap, was it? But Michelle had to know that Eve was not going to be killed by a few measly ZX-74s. But Eve was gone, wasn't she. Jason remembered, vaguely, that S-02's had weak spots that, if hit with a bullet, would cause them to vaporize. Maybe that had happened. But that didn't track. Wouldn't Eve's component parts that were still scattered over the floor have vaporized too. Jason closed his eyes. He just didn't know enough to make a sound judgment.

Michelle sat on her mountain top, hanging her head. Taraka stood behind her. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou...betrayed me├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said. ├óÔé¼┼ôNo!├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle stood, turning to face him, ├óÔé¼┼ôI've done everything for you!├óÔé¼┬Ø.

├óÔé¼┼ôYou have an odd way of showing loyalty├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said, looking at her, ├óÔé¼┼ôYou were breeding a new hybrid├óÔé¼┬Ø.

Michelle took Taraka's hand with her own ├óÔé¼┼ôNo├óÔé¼┬Ø she said, her eyes alight, ├óÔé¼┼ôIt could be our child. We could raise it to be a proper stage three...and we could control the destiny of this galaxy...together├óÔé¼┬Ø. She rubbed his hand. Taraka frowned, but he did not move to take his hand out of her grasp.

├óÔé¼┼ôI see├óÔé¼┬Ø he said slowly. ├óÔé¼┼ôEve...she has a power that I think most of the other Stage Three's lack├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhich is?├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka prompted.

├óÔé¼┼ôImagination├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said, ├óÔé¼┼ôEven I seem to lack it├óÔé¼┬Ø.

Taraka sighed, ├óÔé¼┼ôI don't think that-├óÔé¼┬Ø. He was cut off as two wings snapped out of Michelle's back, standing out black against the radiant sky of the Galactic Core. Taraka's eyes widened. ├óÔé¼┼ôBeautiful, aren't they?├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle asked, flapping them slightly. Even this brought her slightly off the ground on the light gravity of the rock they were both on.

Taraka sighed slowly, and said ├óÔé¼┼ôFine...I can see why you were trying to make a hybrid. Did you succeed?├óÔé¼┬Ø

Michelle's hands went to her belly, ├óÔé¼┼ôAfter a while. Took me a bit to keep my cells from just destroying the seed outright├óÔé¼┬Ø. Taraka sighed, ├óÔé¼┼ôWhen...when will we have a daughter?├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôA few months, give or take├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said. Then her face fell, ├óÔé¼┼ôBut there is some bad news to this. Eve....she's still alive├óÔé¼┬Ø

Eve stood. Around her was blackness. She couldn't even see the floor, but she could feel it. Oddly enough she could see herself, as if she was illuminated but everything else wasn't. She didn't cast shadows, even as she crossed her arms over each other, shivering in the chill that pervaded this place. Then a pulse of silvery light shone out of her. Pain came with it, stabbing through the sides of her head. She collapsed to one knee, gasping as she grabbed her hair. ├óÔé¼┼ôAugh!├óÔé¼┬Ø she moaned.

├óÔé¼┼ôWho....are.....you├óÔé¼┬Ø A incredibly deep voice sounded, so deep that it shook Eve to her bones. It came from every direction, surrounding her and filling her. The pain grew less and Eve stood up. ├óÔé¼┼ôWho are you?├óÔé¼┬Ø she asked.

├óÔé¼┼ôI a Adam├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said, his voice speeding up slightly. Eve looked around. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhere are you?├óÔé¼┬Ø she asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôI am...here├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said. Eve closed her eyes, feeling another stab of pain hit her. ├óÔé¼┼ôI'm Eve├óÔé¼┬Ø she said. ├óÔé¼┼ôAh├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said.

That seemed to be all he had to say. Eve didn't quite know what made her think that Adam was a he, other then the name. But his voice sounded male. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhy did you bring me here?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou...you are on a course to destruction├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said.

Eve's brow wrinkled ├óÔé¼┼ôI-├óÔé¼┬Ø she started, but Adam cut her off. ├óÔé¼┼ôI spend a lot of time thinking├óÔé¼┬Ø he siad. ├óÔé¼┼ôReally?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve asked, ├óÔé¼┼ôI mean...I can see why with this local├óÔé¼┬Ø.

Adam sighed, air buffeting Eve. ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is not a location. This is Me├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said. Eve looked around at the blackness. ├óÔé¼┼ôI don't have a body like you. So, without anything else to do, I think├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said, ├óÔé¼┼ôAnd I realize that unless you embrace either one path or the other you're going to be torn apart├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve's face fell. She knew what he was talking about.

├óÔé¼┼ôI took you here so you do the least damage possible├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said. ├óÔé¼┼ôDamage?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve asked. Then pain stabbed through her mind and she doubled over. The silvery light flashed, and Eve felt as if the entire world was crashing down on her. Then she felt Adam's pain. ├óÔé¼┼ôI can't...contain you for long├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said ├óÔé¼┼ôYou must embrace yourself!├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôI...I don't understand!├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve gasped, the pain redoubling as she fell to the ground.

A foot stepped in front of Eve's face. She slowly uncurled and looked up. Herself stood above her. But it was the Other, the figure that Eve thought was gone from her mind. Her hair fluttered under its own power, and her face was split in half by an evil grin. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou can't get rid of me for long├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said, kneeling next to Eve. Eve felt pain tear through her spine, icy fire making her spasm. She rolled onto her back, eyes screwed up, teeth clenched. ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is you're doing?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve gasped. ├óÔé¼┼ôNo├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said, ├óÔé¼┼ôIts yours├óÔé¼┬Ø

Eve opened her eyes, the pain fading. ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is the Threshold that Doctor Tabuchi told us about, all those years ago├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said, ├óÔé¼┼ôRemember Doctor Tabuchi?├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve nodded, remembering the man she had despised for much of her childhood. Silvery light began to shine. It was coming from Eve's own body. It was tearing her apart, a flow of energy that seemed to crackle down her nerves and limbs. ├óÔé¼┼ôStop fighting it├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said, taking Eve's hand. Eve shook her head ├óÔé¼┼ôI...I can't!├óÔé¼┬Ø she gasped. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou're afraid├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said softly. ├óÔé¼┼ôAfraid of change├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said.

├óÔé¼┼ôAfraid of yourself├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said, her voice tender ├óÔé¼┼ôAfraid of what you could become├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôI...I don't want to hurt my family├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve said. The light shone brighter, making the Other's face stand out in sharp contrast. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou are hurting you're family├óÔé¼┬Ø Adam said, his voice insistent. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou're hurting us├óÔé¼┬Ø The Other said. Eve closed her eyes as the light shone brighter again. She felt as if she was nothing but the light. Then she reached up and placed her hand on the Other's face. It glowed, shining against the normal looking flesh. The Other smiled, suddenly not looking evil at all.

Then Eve blinked. The other was gone. But the light was not. She closed her fist, seeing the light shining in the skin, making her seem ethereal and gaseous. But now the light didn't burn. It warmed, a kindly warmth that made her feel as if...as if Hicks was next to her, holding her. But Hicks was just a human face she had put on a basic, fundamental feeling. An emotional constant.

Then she was sitting in her room, looking at her hand. The room was empty, the lights turned off, but her own light illuminated it. Eve was sitting in the lotus position, and continued to sit there, her face serene. She felt...at peace for once in her entire life. Not the semi-happiness that she had had before, not the anger and despair she had felt before that. Just complete and utter peace.

She opened her eyes and forced the light down, knowing it would frighten the others. It dimmed, but a faint luminosity was still clinging to her. She stood up, slowly, and walked to the door. She opened it and looked up and down the hallway. She stepped out, feeling the cold floor on her feet. Then she realized she was naked. Eve shrugged and in a moment clothes had formed around her. It was the simplest thing in the world. She walked down the hallway, shoes appearing on her feet as she did so.

I wrote this while I was tired. So extra sex and surreal dream things. Also Lizzy was spanish. I hope you all knew that.

Michelle and Taraka felt it at the same time. Michelle's head snapped up, looking at the horizon. ├óÔé¼┼ôOh god├óÔé¼┬Ø she moaned, ├óÔé¼┼ôIts happened!├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôNo!├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said, putting a hand on her shoulder and squeezing it, ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is something different...something...something very very different├óÔé¼┬Ø. Michelle looked at his hand. ├óÔé¼┼ôI love you├óÔé¼┬Ø she said after a long pause. But Taraka had vanished. Michelle looked at her feet again and closed her eyes.

Keller heard the warning sirens as he sat in the bridge. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhat was that?├óÔé¼┬Ø He asked, sitting up. ├óÔé¼┼ôAll our HEPE sensors just overloaded...simultaneously!├óÔé¼┬Ø his sensors officer said, turning around in his chair. Keller blinked. ├óÔé¼┼ôI believe I can explain that├óÔé¼┬Ø A voice said. It was soft, melodious and familer. ├óÔé¼┼ôEve?├óÔé¼┬Ø Keller asked, turning around. Eve stood in the doorway to the bridge, leaning slightly on the door.

Keller gaped. Eve was...glowing. Very slightly, but the silvery luminescences clung to her skin like a fog, gently lighting the area around her. Her clothes, too, were different. Where she had gotten the cloth for them was a completely mystery, or how she had made them. They were tight fitting, with a bizarre feeling of being very old, ancient even. But they also looked new and unimagined before. Her hair hung down her back, longer then it had been for quite a while. But the biggest change was her face. Keller felt better, just looking at it. Eve's eyes danced slightly with a slightly mischievous inner fire, and her entire stance was one of both barely controlled energy and that of complete serenity.

Keller blanched, his body reacting to Eve's...look and stance in a rather base manner. He crossed his legs and said ├óÔé¼┼ôEve...you're back├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve nodded slightly, smiling, ├óÔé¼┼ôI just wanted to report in...and tell you that everything is going to get easier from now on├óÔé¼┬Ø. Keller nodded, still a bit dazed. Eve turned about. Then she tossed her head over her shoulder, looking at Keller. ├óÔé¼┼ôAnd sorry about the...fallout├óÔé¼┬Ø. Then she was gone, walking out of the bridge. ├óÔé¼┼ôI envy her husband├óÔé¼┬Ø the gunnery officer said, ├óÔé¼┼ôA lot├óÔé¼┬Ø.

Hicks was in the locker room, his eyes closed as he took his shirt off and placed in in the washing unit. He felt exhausted, after setting up and taking down the same fortification within the same few hours. That and the fact that his wife was missing, possibly dead. But he knew, in the back of his mind that she was still alive. Then he felt two hands crisscross his chest, running through his hair. At the touch his shoulder's relaxed and his fatigue melted away. He opened his eyes and felt a chin plop down on his shoulder. ├óÔé¼┼ôSorry I had to drop out so suddenly├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve murmured in his ear, her voice...different some how. It was as if every one of her worries had dropped, leaving nothing but the...beauty that was obscured by annoyance, irritation, fury, sadness.

Hicks turned around, feeling better then he had for months. Eve smiled at him, then moved in and kissed him. Energy seemed to crackle between them. The other men in the locker room stared. Mike grinned, glad to see Eve again. Eve stepped away from Hicks and grinned. The other men started to clap. Mike looked away, opening his locker as he did so. ├óÔé¼┼ôPermission to be excused├óÔé¼┬Ø Hicks said, sounding somewhat dazed. ├óÔé¼┼ôGranted├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike said. ├óÔé¼┼ôThank you, sir├óÔé¼┬Ø Hicks said, still sounding dazed. Eve smiled, taking hold of his hand and dragging him away with her.

Hicks backed into his bed and collapsed there. Eve, straddling his chest, spread her legs and started to unbutton her shirt. Hicks looked at her. It seemed...as if she was glowing. He dismissed it as the light behind her, set in the celling. She shucked her shirt off, and Hicks belatedly realized that it was a very strange shirt. Then she leaned forward and kissed his nose. ├óÔé¼┼ôDid you miss me?├óÔé¼┬Ø she asked. Hicks nodded, ├óÔé¼┼ôI always miss you when were not together├óÔé¼┬Ø he said. Eve grinned, closing her eyes and saying ├óÔé¼┼ôLights, off├óÔé¼┬Ø. The light flickered off and Hicks' hands ran up Eve's belly, enjoying the feel of her skin.

Then Hicks realized something. Something was glowing. His hands cupped Eve's breasts. Light flared, glowing under his hands. Eve, her eyes still closed, smiled slowly, her canines pricking over her teeth like fangs. ├óÔé¼┼ôEve├óÔé¼┬Ø Hicks asked. Eve opened her eyes and the light dimmed. ├óÔé¼┼ôYeah?├óÔé¼┬Ø she asked. Hicks shook his head slowly, barely able to make her out from a faint, shimmering luminosity that surrounded her. He reached down and undid his pants. Eve shucked her lower garment as well and they fell into the steady, natural rhythm. Eve sat back, her mouth open. Light started to flare, growing from her lower belly and spreading to the tips of her fingers.

Hicks felt the same energy that Eve did. It permeated the room, a strange untouchable force that made his hair stand up on his arms. Then Eve leaned down, clinging to him. The rhythm quickened. A gasp escaped Eve's throat. The silvery light was changing from silver to a deep gold. Hicks, not understanding what was happening, just kept doing what made Eve happy. She whispered, her voice wet in his ear, ├óÔé¼┼ôYes├óÔé¼┬Ø. Hicks shifted slightly. The light flared, completely gold this time. Eve's hair writhed, moving of its own accord. Hicks felt as if he was making love to a thunderstorm, barely kept in check. Eve threw her head back and a wordless sound of pleasure sounded in the room.

Hicks gasped, feeling Eve slip off of him. ├óÔé¼┼ôI love you├óÔé¼┬Ø she said, not moving off him completely. Her left leg was placed over him, a pleasurable sensation of closeness permeating the room. The light slowly dimmed, changing from gold to silver. ├óÔé¼┼ôEve├óÔé¼┬Ø Hicks said, ├óÔé¼┼ôWhat happened to you?├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve smiled, her face wry, ├óÔé¼┼ôI think...I've woken up├óÔé¼┬Ø. She lay back down. Hicks stayed away, staring at her. She seemed not quite real, as if she was going to drift away in the wind. He reached around and pulled her closer, rolling onto his side. Eve grinned in her sleep, her hair twitching slightly.

In Eve's dream Lizzy was alive again. She had died, but she was alive at the same time. She sat on a rock, pealing an orange. They were on Homeworld, but it was the Homeworld of a century past. A castle sat in the distance, a flag flapping over it. Lizzy finished pealing the orange. Eve was standing, wearing a strange dress. Lizzy wore nothing at all, her hair down, covering her front. Her legs were crossed. But she was...tattooed. Her skin was olive, rather then its normal pitch black. She also seemed far more...relaxed then when she had been alive.

├óÔé¼┼ôSo├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, pointing with an orange in her hand at the castle, ├óÔé¼┼ôWhat do you think of you're new home?├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôMy new home?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve asked, turning back to her. Lizzy shoved a bit of orange into his mouth and chewed. ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is really good...want some?├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy asked.

├óÔé¼┼ôThank you├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve said, nodding. Lizzy dropped a bit of orange into Eve's hand. ├óÔé¼┼ôSo├óÔé¼┬Ø she said, sitting up. Suddenly she was wearing bloodstained clothes, a huge hole torn in the front. But she herself was uninjured, and tattooed again, her skin pitch black. ├óÔé¼┼ôDo you want to know what it's like?├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhat what is like?├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve asked, sitting down. Her dress was gone, replaced with jeans and a tee shirt.

├óÔé¼┼ôDeath├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, smiling. She was nude again, Jason standing behind her. Jason's face was blurring between him, Eve's father and Mike. ├óÔé¼┼ôNot really├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve said. ├óÔé¼┼ôIts better then you think├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, still smiling. She wore a perfectly white suit, clashing against her black skin. A red stain started in the middle of her chest and spread outwards. Eve's face fell.

├óÔé¼┼ôDon't worry about this├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, ├óÔé¼┼ôThe important thing is don't let it go to you're head├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve blinked, confused. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou've made some great progress. Love should come first, whether you express it with a quick one, or a thousand years of hard labor. Remember this and you'll win and the devil will lose├óÔé¼┬Ø.

Eve opened her mouth, wanting to as a thousand questions. But the one she settled on was ├óÔé¼┼ôCan...Can I Save you now?├óÔé¼┬Ø. Lizzy smiled, standing up. She wore a jumpsuit that had her purple tattoo's marked on it in the exact same pattern as her actual skin. She took a step forward and Eve was wearing a dress, but it was tattered and faded. A doll sat on the ground next to her. It was a very poorly made doll, but Eve remembered that Lizzy had stitched it herself. ├óÔé¼┼ôThats a silly question├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, sitting next to Eve, ├óÔé¼┼ôWhat do you need to save me form?├óÔé¼┬Ø

Lizzy was suddenly looked to be about fourteen, her face uncreased and unlined. She had a mischievous grin on, even though her teeth were covered and marred by painful looking braces. A single tattoo was started on her cheek. Eve could see where it would grow to cover her entire body. But it was a young tattoo, just like Lizzy was a very young Lizzy. Another young girl stood behind Lizzy, her skin pale compared to Lizzy's olive skin. ├óÔé¼┼ôWell├óÔé¼┬Ø Lizzy said, her voice thick with an unplaceable accent ├óÔé¼┼ôMi Madre told me to not talk to strangers. But you seem a nice lady, so I'll tell you that that castle over there is important├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve looked at her own mother. She got younger again, a five year old. She said a few words in a mumbled language, one unknown to Eve. Then Lizzy was gone.

Eve stood, alone in the field. Then she turned around and-

Hicks smiled at her. ├óÔé¼┼ôHave a good sleep├óÔé¼┬Ø he asked. Eve sat up, the blanket falling off her front as she stretched. Hicks sat up as well, and his hands were...frisky to say the least. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve giggled, a shimmer of light running up her spine. She rolled onto her front, pinning Hicks to the back of the bed, straddling him. ├óÔé¼┼ôI think...we can take it a bit faster this time├óÔé¼┬Ø she said, the light that clung to her changing from silver to red.

Eve walked out of her rooms, slipping her clothes on when Taraka appeared. She looked at him. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou-├óÔé¼┬Ø he started. Then he was gone. Eve looked back to where she was going and started to walk again.

Taraka appeared back where he had come from, saying ├óÔé¼┼ôdon't├óÔé¼┬Ø. Then he looked around, blinking. ├óÔé¼┼ôOh...Oh no├óÔé¼┬Ø he said, ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is very bad├óÔé¼┬Ø.
