The execution of a strategy that rely on the opponent not predicting it in order to give you any chance of staying in the game without being at a massive disadvantage.Wombat wrote:pro question, what is cheese anyway ? :D
So if you take all your workers at the beginning of the game and attack your opponent, unless you kill him you will lose. It's basically an all in move that if known about can easily be stopped, but requires you to do massive damage in order to offset the fact that you willingly crippled your own economy.

Re: Starcraft 2
in other words, cheese = a premediated all-in
Re: Starcraft 2
Cheese doesn't have to be any all-in attack, could as well be just skimping on defense while ecoing for example

Re: Starcraft 2
There's no requirement that it be premeditated. I think most cheese is a snap decision honestly. "I've gotten a slight advantage! I'm gonna cut all workers and kill him right now!"1v0ry_k1ng wrote:in other words, cheese = a premediated all-in
I don't consider ecoing cheese... even trying to hide a base or something, it's unnecessarily risky, but it's not cheese.

Re: Starcraft 2
I don't think that is cheese. Cheese to me means an all-in that happens close to the start of the game before such and all-in can be scouted. Anything you do after you have an advantage isn't cheese. There's no requirement that it be premeditated. I think most cheese is a snap decision honestly. "I've gotten a slight advantage! I'm gonna cut all workers and kill him right now!"
Basically I agree with 1v0ry_k1ng. Cheese is a planned early rush that is countered if your opponent expects it and leaves the rusher completely screwed if it is countered.
Re: Starcraft 2
It means that you sacrifice a lot of economy and/or security of your production buildings and/or technology to quickly produce a lot of units, to attack your opponent as soon as possible.
So basically if the cheese fails you are behind on technology, economy or your buildings are on a vulnerable spot. (or a combination of the 3)

no, thats a spur of the moment all in.SwiftSpear wrote:There's no requirement that it be premeditated. I think most cheese is a snap decision honestly. "I've gotten a slight advantage! I'm gonna cut all workers and kill him right now!"1v0ry_k1ng wrote:in other words, cheese = a premediated all-in
cheese is not spontanious, it is a specific build that relies upon the opponent either not scouting it or not knowing how to counter it.
...thats just ecoing, which is more or less a neccecisty to zerg macro play (droning wherever possible.)Johannes wrote:Cheese doesn't have to be any all-in attack, could as well be just skimping on defense while ecoing for example
Idra is considered the best SC2 macro zerg, which basically means the longer a game lasts, the more likely he is acheive an economic victory. Because of this most of his opponents focus on killing him early game, where zerg is considered the weakest and most reactive of the three sides.Wombat wrote:dunno whats idras problem with cheese. it sounds... normal.
in other words, many of his opponents cheese (premeditated all-in early attack) idra every game, and getting smushed early by these builds gives him massive rage.

When I lose to cheese the only thing I rage about is how stupid I was for not countering it correctly.

cheese
It doesn't makes sense to call any early attack cheese, it's the secrecy/gambling that matters. For early attacks, you can call them for example "early attacks".

Cheese is a buzzword that has taken off and has become the excuse for whiny players who lose a game to an unorthodox strategy :d personally I love a bit of cheese.
Will also be buying premium HD stream for GSL 3, had it for the previous two seasons. Will be rooting for all the foreigners, and ofcourse, fruitdealer! About 8 hours to go :D:D
