I wasnt thinking 96x72, rather 128x96, and yes 16:9 ratios are a bit much, but in that shot posted earlier I prefered the 4:3 version to the 1:1 a lot.

My computer screen is 4:3 my TV is 4:3/4:3/4:3/4:3/16:9/16:9, even the paintings on my wall are rectangular, my ipod screens rectangular my phones screenss rectangular, my windows are rectangular.

I say we change from 96x96 to 128x96 and keep 4:3 aspect ratio, and support cinematic buildpics that take entire rows.

The only arguement you have for keeping squares 1:1 aspect ratios is that you dont want to change your buildpics.

I suggest that we instead of stretching square buildpics to 4:3 ratio we should instead resize them to 128x128 then crop to 128x96 centred on the image.

So i say unless a patch is submitted to allow users to switch between rectangular and square buildpics and for modders to control it, we shouldnt change from 4:£ aspect ratio in the new version and should instead see it as a feature not a bug. 4:3 > 1:1, 4:3 is better, more aesthetically pleasing, more natural, saves vertical space. 1:1, a lazy modders excuse to b*tch

I don't see a reason to allow users to control it. Buildpics are either designed for 1:1 or 4:3 or 16:9 (or anything else) but not for multiple formats.

That, and this is the kind of option that falls under the option bloat category.

Just mod controlled would be best IMHO.

A tag the modinfo tdf to control build pic behaviour, like BuildPicFormat=0/1/2 -> 1:1/4:3/16:9

This would resize the buildpics then accordingly without messing around with the build slot at all.

Who the fizzle cares what polygon the SupCom buildpics are in? Just cause SupCom is doing it or is "rumored" to be doing it, doesn't mean that we shold masturbate to the thought of it being included in Spring.

I can agree with TradeMark in one respect.

The GUI shouldnt be desynching the game, right? So if I want to improve/replace the default mod GUI, I should be able to do that, right? Lets say i want to change red text to green because im colorblind, f.ex.

modder GUI skins should just show up as an extra GUI option, with modders specifying default GUI for a race/faction.

Sooner or later... anyway these changes can be made in more or less 10 minutes I guess, so why not do it anyway. It's like investing an hour to make the time, until the new GUI is fully in, more comfortable for the rest of the fanbase :-)

1) it takes more then 10 minutes if you don't know exactly what code causes the 4:3
2) 100 things that take less then 10 minutes may still take 2 full days.
3) if you finally found the code and changed it, it may very well appear to break the rest of the GUI, forcing you to spent another 50 minutes finetuning / bugfixing it again to get it just right.

Changing them back to 1:1 ratio would mess up the side menu and thus your 1 liner becomes a large patch.

And since SupCom does it, we should to? I don't get the point of this post at all.

And what constitutes a "bloat" feature? I mean... come on. Look at the changelog, who says what's bloat and what isn't?

Then submit it to the mod maker, they should really have full control on how their mod looks and feels, and who are you to say its shitty before they've even been given the ability? Is icexuicks gui shitty?

If you really think you're such a gui god then submit it to the mod maker and they can include it if they want.

ARGH.

1) I want it to be simple: only one GUI.
2) I dont want to learn 10 different GUIs and how to use them.
3) I would probably hate some mod specified GUIs more than the current GUI.
4) I dont want to fight for one more thing with the mod makers.
5) I dont care a shit how the mod looks for me, i just want same f****ng GUI for every mod.
6) GUI is not important for gameplay. SO IT DOESNT MATTER FOR MOD MAKERS.
