Modding Convention Proposal: Explosions
Moderator: Moderators
Perhaps I'm just a genious but the damage done by certain projectiles (bertha for example) and explosions (nuke, detonator EMP, large mines etc) is pretty obvious to me, simply by LOOKING at the result of explosion/projectile hitting your stuff.
If you are trying to judge the area of effect solely from the visual representation of whatever weapon you are using you are pretty DUMB.
Seriously, you shouldnt need to look at the explosion/collision effects to see how much damage is caused just LOOK AT THE ACTUAL RESULT OF THE EXPLOSION/PROJECTILE HITTING ITS TARGET.
If your units/structures are still on the map they CLEARLY havn't been destroyed by whatever hit them. If someone launches a nuke and you by some stroke of genious realise that your base has dissapeared then apparently the nuke has destroyed it. Whatever is left clearly wasnt in the blast radius or didnt incur enough damage to blow up. If someone launches a detonator EMP missile at your defences its pretty OBVIOUS which structures it has EMP'd simply by LOOKING AT THEM AFTER THE MISSILE HAS HIT.
How is that so confusing? You people look at the weapon effect and just automatically trust that it MUST show the area of effect, without even looking at the ACTUAL result?
Geez.

I am against conventions.. they only bring large groups of geeky people together and take up lots of space in buildings that could be used for more interesting things like lawn bowling..
Oh btw I agree with argh (GASP SHOCK, cue black dude saying THIS IS BLASPHEMY... MADNESS)
Its not exactly a 1-2-3 step easy process to match explosion graphic size with explosion radius, and then we have the ever so often balance tweaks where you have to adjust.. Yeah lots of work for little gain..
Unless you can find me a easy way to calculate graphic size vs aoe beyond eyeballing it.. Im gonna go make my explosions however large I please and worry about dining in hell later...

For sure. Plasma is heat, and my idea of Plasma is compressed super heated air that expands on contact, searing the hell out of anything nearby, for a decent distance. Without any visual signs. (IF I new how to do those heat waves like when you see over cars on a hot day, I would do it...)If you are trying to judge the area of effect solely from the visual representation of whatever weapon you are using you are pretty DUMB.
edit:Fang! Stop stealing lines from 300!
Lol, good point.Zoombie wrote:The only problem is a lot of those movies seem to be James Bond movies...elliotkr wrote: Hasn't anyone ever seen a movie where the people are escaping the explosion and the edge of it encompases them? They seem to be fine...
But still, I guess I'm just suporting the side in that I think a 'convention' to have someone change their mod is a little rude, inconciderate, and unappreciative.
