Yes, when E&E is ota content free, we should immediately remove XTA from the official Spring download and make E&E the official mod.

Its familiar because of it's near future feel, which should mean that lots of people would be willing to try it, but the gameplay is also new and original, which fits with Spring's goal, but it's not too wierd and un RTS like to scare away newbs (*cough*Nanoblobs*cough*).

All I need to do is replace the textures on the units and it is OTA content free.. in all ways that count..
It's just that I/we don't exactly know how close each mod is to achieving this goal.
Another important question I would like you to ponder: Can you release E&E under a open source license? And would you be willing to develop it in a team based way using collaboration tools like SVN and WebDav?
If development of NanoBlobs and Xect vs. Mynn works out like we expect it to this could also become a option for Expand and Exterminate.

Explain in depth what you mean. Are you talking more along the lines of "Creative Commons"? Cause in that case that would make some sense. Random people "Contributing" to a mod does not lend itself very well towards following a design document, and personally if it were to be as though anyone anywhere could do whatever they wanted, I would be absolutely furious (As would Fang to an even greater extent, not to mention the dozen or so other people that have a personal vested interest in E&E).

I personally think what you are talking about is along the Creative commons line of things, however, please explain what you mean.

Thanks!

Creative Commons is an example, technically there not open source licenses as you don't have to share source, so the OSI did not list them but that is a discussion that.. can wait.

It would mean random people can contribute to a mod in the same way random people can contribute to the Spring engine. Or to Xect vs. Mynn / NanoBlobs.
i.e. the contribution needs to be accepted by the mod's development team.

I don't have the time a.t.m. to explain this more (I'm at work), but I will get back to this.
