OK, fine. I'll pose the question, since I don't spam the lobby, so you can't distract any debate with accusations of hypocracy.
Is it permissible for a non-official bot to create text in #main which is only of interest to a small group of Spring players?
How much text should a bot be permitted to create in #main which is only of interest to a small group of Spring players?
What content restrictions should be enforced on non-official bots creating text in #main? Should the restrictions be looser, tighter, or the same as the somewhat vague restrictions we already have?
What restrictions, if any, should be enforced on bots outside of #main?
For some examples to chew on, consider the following possible examples:
1) A bot that posts a link to the latest version of AA every 2 minutes.
2) A bot that PMs a link to the latest version of AA whenever a user joins #main.
3) A bot that, on command, generates funny emmanuel quotes.
4) A trivia bot, such as that already in #trivia.
5) A bot that sends an admonishing PM to anyone hosting SpeedMetal.
6) A bot that sends a PM with other map suggestions to anyone hosting SpeedMetal.
7) A bot that posts a link to the latest version of NanoBlobs every 2 minutes.
8] A bot that periodically advertises ways in which people can monetarily help FileUniverse.
9) A bot that periodically advertises ways in which people can monetarily help a prominent Spring modder.
10) A bot that periodically advertises ways in which people can monetarily help me, someone who contributes next to nothing to the Spring community.

We own the server, the content that we allow to be autobroadcast should be entirely our decision, don't you agree? Nothing stops someone who doesn't like the bots that are allowed to run on the spring client server from starting their own client server, the server files are readily available.Felix the Cat wrote:So basically, whether a bot is allowed to send messages to #main depends upon the subjective criteria of whether a mod feels like giving permission.
At least you're open about your bias.

This isn't a discussion about what the rules can be - it's a discussion about what the rules should be.
You could set up the server so that it pops up a window with tubgoil in it every time you log on, by the same reasoning as above. That doesn't mean that you should do so, or even that you should reserve the right to do so.
Last time I checked, the purpose of the server is to provide the best experience possible for Spring players. My post asking questions was looking for input from Spring players, so that you can make a policy that would give the best experience possible. If I'm mistaken, and the purpose of the server is not to give the best experience possible for Spring players, but is to enlarge AF's e-penor or boost your own ego, please inform me so I can stop trying to make it the best possible for Spring players.
OK, that was kind of uncalled for. This is a discussion over AF's cookiebot plugging in a couple of lines an hour in main. I for one haven't even seen AF's Cookiebot outside of #trivia, so I can't really say if it's bad or not. Maybe we should ask AF, since he made it. One would think he know's how it works.
I don't mind a bot saying stuff, as long as it's maybe once every 20 minutes. For all the trouble it's causing, though, maybe we should just take it off #main so the others don't get mad.

This is actually the sort of input I was asking for, you know. How often a bot should be able to say things in #main. It wasn't an argument until SwiftSpear jumped in with his "lol rules are whatever I feel like" BS.Candleman wrote:OK, that was kind of uncalled for. 1. Can you just shut up for once?Felix the Cat wrote:This is actually the sort of input I was asking for, you know. How often a bot should be able to say things in #main. 2. Yes, the rules are whatever the people who/run/moderate the server want them to be!

1. No. If you feel that what I am saying is harmful, feel free to ask a mod to ban me from Spring altogether.Aun wrote:1. 2. Thanks for not reading anything I wrote in this entire thread. I'm touched.
Actually, it's entirely possible he did read what you said, he just graced you with his opinion.
And can Felix or ee please give their opinion on how acceptable Cookiebot is? That is what we're talking about. Not any other theoretical bots. I say you two because you are the only ones (so far) with a problem.

Fine, you wrang one last post out of me.Candleman wrote:Actually, it's entirely possible he did read what you said, he just graced you with his opinion.

Cookiebot is fine with me. I'd be one of that portion of the Spring community who is interested in Cookiebot! I'd rather that its functions were switched to #trivia or some other channel; I think there should be a hard rule: no bots in #main (except for, of course, ChanServ, which is sort of important).
I'd also call on AF to voluntarily make Cookiebot not post messages to #main, and to confine its operations to #trivia and other channels.
I'm much more interested in the rules for bots in general. That's what I've been talking about since I've been talking about things, and if you fail to see that, well, yeah. There's no shame in taking reading comprehension classes as it's an important skill in the business world.
For what it's worth, I agree that ee probably posted this just to be troublesome; or, perhaps, Cookiebot actually was spamming the lobby, i.e. AF was on and was actively cookieing it up, and there was a lot of Cookiebot stuff in comparison with other stuff in #main.
But mostly, what I wanted to see before SwiftSpear had to come in here and give his heavy-handed commentary was peoples' opinions on bots in #main. So far I've gotten a grand total of zero opinions on bots in #main and two opinions of my worth as a person based on my dislike of SwiftSpear.
This is what I talk about when I say this community is shitty and I've descended to its level. Usually I don't randomly insult people unless I'm in a bad mood.
