Well, if you're guys waiting for a release, (release being v1.0), you'll have to wait long. The current version is 0.1 as far as I know, and apart from GUI and the AI Engine Interace (AIEI sound kinda weird, heh) everything works fine. Things look great, feel great, and play great, now we need a GUI - that is top priority now, even though I love the additions you guys added, the rectangular GUI that everything is tucked in is worse than most of those that I saw. Impressions on version 0.1 will follow in a nearby thread, if the SY won't mind, and won't delete it.

For me, it's not important if the GUI is ugly if it is playable and have anything we need.
And why wait on an AI opponent if evrithing else work?

So..I don't wait on 1.0 but on 0.1 ;)

Well, for one - there may be little things and stability issues that I haven't encountered yet so as to report them, and they most likely will be in the multiplayer part, that I am as of yet unable to fully test. If you are waiting for 0.1, you won't get it (this is a testers-only release), but keep your fingers crossed for 0.2!

It'll be interesting what the testers have to say - a video game is like a website. You don't know what will happen once you throw a couple peons into the mix...

*grin* I guarentee you'll get chucked a wobbly. Most fun.

spring is more like a v 0.5 at the moment. the lobby on the other hand is more like a 0.15 :) I spent more time on the server, ((which works damned well, might i add). We're testing out a few bugs in the lobby, so keep your eyes open for a release any day now (maybe even tommorow). I'm pulling an all nighter for ya'll!

Being a newbie to TA Spring, I still have faith... I'm not nearly as jaded as these older farts...

Thank you is not nearly powerful enough.

My next question: once we have v0.1 TA Spring, do you mind if we report it to Slashdot, Somethine Awful, GenMay, Hard[OCP] and any other big websites? I certainly wouldn't mind rousing the fanbase, and maybe even bringing in new people.

We might have the next Counterstrike on our hands!

Note: This is an important Point!

The first impression that Spring makes when it is released will have a major impact on its future.

If Spring becomes known to the "Net Community at Large" (Slashdot, etc) when it still needs polish in terms of graphics, AI, proper content, etc, then people will visit the webstie for the first time, play it, be bored, then go away quickly. it would take years to win a very large fanbase back.

The key to maximizing Spring's impat would be to ensure that it has a sufficient amount of polish before being "publicized". If Spring is kept within the TA community, we can develop exclusive content and such for it, and server as a sort of third layer of bugfixing before actually putting it out there.

(just my own opinion of course... SYs might have something else in mind).

Sparkyhodgo's idea is my first impulse, but after careful consideration, I would agree with Dragon45. We want the first impression of Spring to those outside of the TA community to be of a complete and polished game. Members of the TA community may or may not accept some annoying problems, but will be much more likely to come back upon the announcement of a final version of Spring.

Spring takes some getting used to. And if you're not willing to have an open mind to this game and only compare it with TA then I think you'll be dissapointed and done with it very fast.

I don't know about a possible review. The graphics are neat but only on the latest hardware. There are only a few maps available, and it's just not a finished product at the moment. So I don't think it would be fair to have a review as if it's a finished product. There will be a bug reporting system on the site though, so for the community it's probable that an earlier version will be out.

Perhaps the initial release should be through a passworded download, where the password is released to a few people, who can release it to a few others (similar to the initial beta release of Gmail). Thus pretty much everyone in the TA community will get hold of it, but there won't be a huge explosion in users, keeping the initial testing community smaller until Spring is further refined.

I have a certain feeling that this is exactly how it will be done. ;)
