In the same register, if some of you still use solid shoe polish for footwear (in round metal boxes), it tends to get completely dry after a while, and almost unusable. Just light it up, it will instantly catch fire; let it melt for a few seconds and then you can use it again. Hot shoe shine is particularly effective on leather, and you can't use too much. Make it penetrate, and just brush your shoes heavily after a while and they will shine.
I learnt that trick at the army (that's about the only useful thing I learnt there).
Anyway, leather grease from the US army is FAR better than any shoe shine and it lasts indefinitely.
