Yay, went on a nuking spree.
I believe I have the spring maps section pretty well sorted. I got rid of all old versions of maps (I think). Also, I fixed several rar-ed maps with sdz's (would have done sd7, but that takes much more time).
Meh done a lot of cleaning and I know I havn't even nicked the paint.
meh :-/
lol

Read out Official Client
Can`t the Official Client collect the Data how often and how long a Map is played and launch a Vote after the Game has finnished?
Also how about a Monthly new "must have" Package, containing the ten (by hits) most downloaded maps.
Also very helpfull would be a sorting by theme and a subsection under every Map, containing the Replays on that Particular Map. (Same Subsections could be usefull under the Mod files.)
And - of course - how about a "random Map" Button... for those undecided.

Welcome to the suck
Storm's right, it wears you down fast...
Anyway, I have a feature suggestion for you storm! The drop down box for making something a child of another file is worthless now that we have 2000+ files (hell, aren't we almost to 3k now?). Make me a box that lets me paste in the target parent ID manually!
Also, when a user upgrades a file, the attached images and files are not updated. Case in point, SecurE updated Ashpen yesterday, and I had to go re-associate all 11 or 12 images because FU didn't automatically. Pretty annoying.
Annnnd if you get the chance, expand that little drop down box thing I started upon Datanut's suggestion. You know, the one that sorts the files into /mods/, /maps/, and so on. Make it so it uploads files to the appropriate category. So someone who chooses Spring and Maps would have the map sent to category 121 instead of public, and so on. I would look into that myself but I don't know how you have the database laid out really. Your code is a warzone!
[edit] We should also write a script to find orphaned images and comments which have no association whatsoever do to deletion or whatever. If we're going to nuke the old spring maps, we may as well get those bastards too.

Would anyone particulaily mind if I totally rewrote the FU code? From the ground up? I would also make scripts for moving the database to the new system, so that isnt an issue. Everything would still work the same, and nothing would be visibly changed, so the end user wouldnt even notice. But it would allow more things to be added easier, and the code would hopefuly be alot cleaner.
Any comments?

Looking from the larger perspective, that might be the best choice, but as you might have guessed, I kinda have strong personal ties to that disgrunted code of mine and sending away all the programming elsewhere would leave me completely out of the loop. I've personally rewritten the entire code three times as my knowledge grew and I had hoped that the fourth time would be mine as well.Would anyone particulaily mind if I totally rewrote the FU code? I know I sound silly, but people tend to grow into stuff when they spend years working on it (especially when the shit is listed in my CV), so let's cut a deal... If I fail to properly update the system by the end of may, I resign the post of lead programmer (which I haven't really deserved the last months anyway). You may help me, Maelstrom or even dump large pages of how the code should look like, I can even prompt you as the code author instead of me, as long as I get to assemble the last chunks myself.

I know what you mean. I grow attached to site I make as well.Storm wrote:Looking from the larger perspective, that might be the best choice, but as you might have guessed, I kinda have strong personal ties to that disgrunted code of mine and sending away all the programming elsewhere would leave me completely out of the loop. Sounds good. If you havnt redone things by May, we could work together in making a whole new site. Im sure everything I do is not perfect, but the chances of making a horrible mistake are slightly less with two people on the job. We will see when the time comes.Storm wrote:I know I sound silly, but people tend to grow into stuff when they spend years working on it (especially when the shit is listed in my CV), so let's cut a deal...
