well, I like MP in these games.
In fact, I've been playing a hotseat game of MoO2 with my brother over the past week-and-a-half, and I'm enjoying it.

I play Civ 3 (and when I have a second powerful computer, Civ 4) with my brother-in-law when we have the opportunity. Civ 3 (haven't tried c4) has some options to make multiplayer TBS a little less slow, like simultaneous moves, etc. Can't say they always work perfectly, but they do make the game move along at a more tolerable pace.

If this game ever gets a multiplayer addon, and I think it will, the only thing they'll really have to cut down is the custom ship building. It'll have to be limited to designs you've made during single player or quick designs you make just by clicking on items you want on a ship and they'll be automatically placed, I think. I take too much pride in my ship building, I've taken more time designing ships than taking turns some games ^^

I love planning a military around your opponents' weaknesses and strengths. I took down the Arcaceans in my last game using something like 3 fleets, all of them with missile defenses so strong that their weapons were rendered useless against me! My first volley takes down 3 of their ships, their next volley reduces my first ship by 2 HP

Ive been playing a hot seat game of MOO2 for over a year. Me and my mate only just crushed the second computer oponent (the others are tiny though and no worries) and then ill duke it out with him (And win, cause I have every tech, and 6 steller converters on 1 ship... and hes dont have everything cause he wasn't creative.)

MOO2 is imposible to beat on imposible though... computer gets to many bonouses. Every worker with 2+ production? crazy.

Well in GalCiv 2 the computer ONLY cheats when you get to the last three difficulty, out of ten. So on intellegent they are vicious, under hand and a bunch of jerks. But they don't get "mirical" money out of no were. At the level ABOVE intellegent, they do start to get more money then they really should.

I liked multiplayer for MAX, hated multiplayer for all the civ games, was ok with multiplayer for MoO2, although I found that it wasn't the most intense thing because MoO2 you didn't interact a hole tonne with the other races unless you were blowing holes in thier homeworlds.

I don't really say it enough but honestly TBS have been some of the funnest games that I've ever played, and it isn't because of the multiplayer. If spring is ever capable I fully intend to orchastrate a mod built in the vein of MAX, but there's alot more that needs to be done to the engine to make that possible. Even RPGs that mix in TBS elements like Front Misson are like crack to me. I love the turn based system.

You know that sounds more and more like MOO2. Which only cheats on teh levels past hard. And on hard there all jerks to, to teh point i took uncharismatic (which means everyone hates you but u can spend extra points on other upgrades) because everyone hated me anyway!!

Ya know what you gotta do. You put all of those stellar converters seperately on the ship, rather than 6x stellar converter. That way you can selectively fire them.

To be fair, if you play it right you are a lot better off using lesser weapons on most of your ships. It's funny, sometimes it seems like I can totally pwn anything in sight with like 3000 heavily miniaturized phasors, other times disruptors are the best choice, other times maulers (tho maulers are overrated IMO). I usually just load up one ship with like 3 stellar converters and all my gadgets (things like wide area ecm, escape preventer dealie, etc). It serves as my flagship sorta... I use it to break through things like barrier shields that the other stuff just can't touch most of the time even if they're in close proximity.

Galciv 2 update 1.1 should be out soon, I can't wait! Metroid Hunters, Tetris DS (which actually sounds pretty fun now that I read the previews), Worms: Open Warfare... this month kicks so much ass.

I think it takes one level of miniaturization to put a Stellar Converter onto a Titan with Battlepods, at which point more of you colonies will be able to spam them

I never research titans anymore, I always go for the production enhancement colony structure (or is it ground batteries or something?)

Yeah yeah.

My freind's computer exploded and now he has is a OLD pentium 1.3 or something laptop. GalCiv 2 run's smooth as a wistle (and looks horrible, but its still adictive!).

I only really see the graphics in the battle's, ship designe screens and when I zoom in to see my cool battle fleets prowling between stars. All the other time's im zoomed way out untill everything become's icons. Then its like playing a bord game, or looking at a stratigic map of the univers. Also you can just go "Okay thats a fleet, a troop transport and a constructor moveing towards my borders, backed by a near by millitary star base" and all from icons, with absolutly NO CLICKING REQUIRED!!!

First impressions,

-Turnbased
-Movement is lame
-Slow to get started
-Interface seems a tad awkward but not aweful
-Quite possibly the worst tutorials I have ever seen, I mean c'mon, video's?

+Gotta love the ship design
+Easy to pirate

You have been seduced by the dark side of strategy, young one.

Twitchy RTS's lead to impatiences Impatiences leads to frustration at slower TBS games. Frustration at TBS game's leads to scorn of TBS games. Scorn of TBS game's leads to evil.

RTW is the perfect balance between TBS and RTS, and its hardly "twitchy".
