So, you mentioned mapping format. Are the methods for creating maps different than what is presented in the wiki? I noticed there are like fifty different pages regarding map making, and was thinking about combining them all into one, but if they are no longer relevant it would be a waste of time.

The wiki way of map making is up to date for now. Soon (hopefulyl), a new map format will be released. But this new format will not make the current one obsolete, so the information will still be current. Go ahead and combine them if you want.

First of all, nice to see a new face helping on the wiki !
On the mapmaking page: I agree that some of the tutorials could and should be merged. But please don´t merge all the map page´s into one big page, I´d prefer to keep them split in sensible ways (as some of them are):
Compiling, the complete map making process, than perhaps different pages for different methods of creating texture (+height) maps. For example: Terragen, Tertexgen, Photoshop, converting old TA maps.
Just a thought of course and no strict rule :D .

Unit info

Post by Tweenk »

I see that the wiki right now is mainly about modding / general usage / development. What about adding some info about existing units and their most effective usage? Or some common strategies (comm bombing, early rush, raiding, swarming, etc.)? At last, Spring should be more player-focused than dev-focused  so a bit of game info would be great. Especially for new players so they don't get constantly pwned until they realize what is good against what.

PS I can add some of this info, but as I'm a lame player, my wisdom doesn't present much value ;)

Yeah... I think there deffinitely needs to be more of it, but that's what we've got so far... make sure if you DO add a page like you are talking about that you throw it into the [[Category:Strategy]] or [[Category:Playing]] tag... whatever is neccessary

I noticed there is actually some info on those topics, but it's not in the right place - everyone wants to write an ultimate Spring guide which solves all the problems of material world, but no-one wants to write something on some specific topic (i. e. usage of some unit) as one thinks that this is not as useful as writing another all-in-one guide. That's wrong... I think an article entirely about i. e. porcing (including: what to use, what to use against porcers, on which maps is it most annoying and should be avoided etc.) would more useful for players that are a bit into the game than a whole lot of guides that cover everything to some extent, but nothing in detail.
