Looking forward to the Spring 2.0rc3 in 2010 for a new, improved, and completely recoded line by line from the ground up experience. Maybe even be able to have units successfully path over and under bridges and spherical maps!
Honestly it's so late I've forgotten if i'm being sarcastic and can't tell if I'm being funny anymore...
* SinbadEV falls over *
the groundplates have to be rescripted please!

Thanks for not reading my post!SwiftSpear wrote:Optimus, ground plates aren't used for pathfinding, they are usually way too small in comparison to the unit to properly pathfind a unit. [edit] groundplates and unit footprints are totally different things, the only thing the groundplate defines is where you can click on a unit for it to successfully be selected.
Felix: Honestly, the devs aren't just sitting on thier hands all day. There are dozens and dozens and dozens of feature requests that are being juggled constantly, but I think it's fair to say that the pathfinding engine isn't currently getting a total rehaul. So these kind of ideas, as great as they may be, are not simple implimentation changes, and aren't any more relevent to the current spring development then, say, asking for dynamic lights.
I'll dignify you with a substantial reply when you actually bother to read my post and reply to my post. (Hint for the reading-impaired: I never once mentioned the developers.)

I was going to say "If you want it so bad then do it yourself" but people have gotten mad at me for saying that in the past, so I footprinted around the issue. Alot of people assume zaphod can just impliment all this feature matter in a matter of a few months, and I can tell you right now, spring needs alot more coders if we want all this stuff in any time soon.

Argh, looks like I'm going to have to restate what I said in my post in a simpler form in order for your simple mind to understand it.SwiftSpear wrote:I was going to say "If you want it so bad then do it yourself" but people have gotten mad at me for saying that in the past, so I footprinted around the issue. -Peoples' attitudes - Caydr's in this instance - that change of anything in Spring can't happen are uncalled for and could potentially drag the project back.
-Criticism that consists only of variants of "lol teh spring cant do that you nub, live with it" are useless and are better left unsaid.
-The developers of Spring did NOT and do NOT have these attitude problems.
-You, on the other hand, seem to have a reading-comprehension problem.
-Besides some implicit praise of the Spring developers in the third point, absolutely NOTHING was mentioned about the developers of Spring.
-See the point above the point above this one, just for emphasis on that last point.

Caydr wasn't saying it wasn't a problem worth undertaking, he was just countering op's point that since the groundplates are already rectangular recoding the pathing to accomidate should be easy...
I didn't understand your post because I didn't understand what you thought Caydr was saying.
Caydr is right about footprints remaining square for your information. What needs to be changed is the way rectangular units interact with thier footprint in pathing.
