I think we can consider a file sharing extension to the existing protocol sometime in the future.
How hard can it be to implement P2P filesharing?

I briefly tested lamer's edited server thing on windows. It started but I did not manage to connect with springlobby.
I entered my local IP (tried 127.0.01 too) and it said
"Connecting to 192.168....
Connected to to 192.168...."
So at first looked like it worked but seems actually it just connected to normal internet server:

Look how in the chat & title of tab is my local IP, but in playerlist are people from internet server.

Clicking around in the connect/register dialog can also crash SL but I dont know how to reproduce.

ps: while trying to register LAN account I managed to guess the password of foreign account "123" 8)

Hmm, i had same issue, don't know who's fault that is, springlobby's?
Please try also ip:8200 (i wrote "ip:port" in instructions for a reason)

Oh.I tried ip:port but maybe only with 8201 instead of 8200. (maybe confused by 8201 displayed in uberserver window)
Maybe it could show something like:
Server is running, in lobby enter this connection details: 192.123.123:8200
With such message almost no other written manual is needed.

Anyway it worked now: I could register account, log in, open battle, start game.

But I think springlobby has some problems.
1) No matter what nonsense is entered, SL will always say that it has connected:
** Server ** Connecting to server lolollololol34serzdgd...
** Server ** Connected to lolollololol34serzdgd.
** motd ** Welcome, 123!
** motd ** There are currently 122 clients connected
2) In open battle dialog, if [x]use relayhost is checked (like when previously trying to play online) then nothing happens.
In the server window one can see why:
[6] ERROR: <abc>: user to pm is not online: SLrelayMaster
But for unsuspecting player the host dialog just closes without any note.

3) Server - "Reopen server panel" - Clicking that never does anything for me. (no matter if logged in or not)
Instead I click Chat or Battlelist or Connect or some other menu, and then the server panel comes up.

I tried lamer's instructions and it worked for me on windows 8.1. The executable lamer provided also worked. I almost always play spring with a friend on LAN, so hooray for not having to send our packets across the globe!

It is a little confusing that uberserver doesn't report that it's running on port 8200, and that springlobby doesn't read IP addresses as anything unless followed by a port number.
