I'm not talking about + or -. Lets say u played a 3 hour game. I just want to know what happened during last 30 mins. I don't want to sit there for 30-40 mins on 3.0 speed, def if there is a lotta fighting, it lags up the system.

Yes, exactly. Since its a recording, you should be able to fast forward to parts you like...maybe even rewind too.

You can fast-forward.

Dude, I'm not here to comment on your smart ass remarks. I am suggesting a jump-to function w/o having to rewatch a 3 hour long replay. Even on high speeds, it still is unneccessary to watch everything just to get to a point I want to see. If I wanted to rewind, there is currently no way to do it, other than by watching it all over again.

Another suggestion would be to make a slider that the user can control to jump forward or back in the replay. Think WMP or Winamp and their sliders that can be used to jump to certain parts of videos or songs.

This is just not possible. Because of how the replays are made. It is not physically possible to jump to a spot, you HAVE to go through every part of the replay. The same for rewinding. You cant. With out serious modifications, and a major jump in file sizes, this will never be possible.

Replays aren't video files, the are basicly complex scripts that replay the game sequence exactly the way it was done by the players. You need all the information build up from every part of the early game in order to render what ever is currently going on. The best we could possibly hope for is a super fast forward until replay reaches position X. Most likely rewind is basicly impossible short of totally replaying the replay from square one until the point you rewind to for every rewound frame.

It could take complete snapshots at minute intervals, that would give us a reasonably small file sizes still and allow "jumping".

Ok, thats cool. Least I got a reason of why not instead of just "use +"

Replays arent scripts at all, all theya re is a filedump of all the network traffic spring recieves. When you play them back all your doing is feedign the saved network packets abck into spring.

it was ur wording. it was REALLY stupid. i mean OMFG U CANNOT FAST FORWARD is always going to be replyed with "+" because that IS fast forwarding >,< what u r talking bout is skipping and that is simply not possible AND not needed.
