censorship!
But every "my first nubmap that does not even work" entry uploaded to springfiles gets published without review...

Because you don't get random youtube videos about completely unrelated games, timelapses out of car windows, or videos of red alert, being uploaded to the spring section of springfiles.

You are citing this as a 'what content we should or shouldn't have' problem. I disagree, I see it as a Where the content should or shouldn't be displayed' problem, for which there is already a solution. But as I keep saying, and people keep seeming to overlook, that solution isn't finished yet, and when it is, I'll deploy it.

Until said solution is deployed, I can counter that traffic and time spent on the site have gone up. The improvements are a success.

So be patient, stop trying to make me fix something that's temporary, and let me get on with the permanent solution.

red alert always related.
it is just difficult to give feedback without knowing what is final or not.

let's stay realistic, the traffic is no evidence that the site got better: some hundred clicks gained from this thread do no indicate anything.
Not saying that the site will not not get better but bringing up traffic at this point is as silly as those playernumber threads ;)

Traffic is up consistently, and not from this thread. Looking at the stats, the majority of the increase coming in referalls from this site is not this thread, but it's actually the frontpage news feed, which is showing a massive percentage boost.

Also the traffic improvement is not a lone spike.

http://www.dev.springinfo.info/29/sprin ... -analytics

Also this thread was more about announcing that things are changing so that we didnt end up with a 'what happened to springinfo' thread, and explaining major changes, rather than requesting feedback and details. I'd have preferred not to have talked about the details of things that haven't happened yet here but the subject was raised and things were mentioned.

While feedback is welcome, I don't expect it, and it would be unreasonable of me to expect it at this stage.

Referalls from the root page of springinfo are up by 1933.33%
impressive numbers but absolute it is up from 5 to 200.
but it's actually the frontpage news feed, which is showing a massive percentage boost.
the frontpage of springrts.com?
Shouldn't springinfo.info bring traffic to springrts.com instead of other way around?
so that we didnt end up with a 'what happened to springinfo' thread
Tbh after seeing it broken for very long and with threads like http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26492 going nowhere, I assumed it was dead.

SI sends traffic to all of the project sites, as the content links to the source. People should be coming to the spring site if they are developers. If they are players, they should be going to the game's sites.

That particular traffic boost is likely gone now since I changed the RSS feeds to link feed items to the original source rather than the post on springinfo, but it is a sign that the feed on the frontpage is getting used a lot more, and traffic stats say people are visiting more and staying for longer periods.

This is good considering it is only at the halfway point.

The games taxonomy update is now live:

http://www.dev.springinfo.info/36/games ... -goes-live

You can now drill down and show posts for a particular game regardless of category. More details in the post.

hmm I can't create polls in this forum..

I have a question, who would oppose the wiping of all posts on springinfo? What would be the collateral of such an action?

not possible in "general" though it works in "games & mods", dunno.

...and nothing of value was lost!
99% of posts are linking to off-page stuff so no content gets lost. I think the only posts longer than 2 sentences are some BA guides or something, maybe those could be saved (at least the text) for the "BA homepage"

There are guides but those are pages.

My concern at the moment is that for some games, 99% of the posts are hand written by the person, e.g. Azaremoth writes his own posts IIRC

All links to his moddb page...

Btw I think there is a bug when you click on user names eg on "by knorke":
Instead of listing all posts by that person, it links to something else.
For example if you search "demonaut", click the post, then click "by knorke" it will just link to http://www.springinfo.info/?s=demonaut (the search results) again.
I would expect it to be a "view more posts by same person" button.

I think really 99% of handwritten posts are in the style of "[link to something] 1-2 sentences to describe link." Imo that does not qualify as "article."
Actually I have a hard time to remember any post that was not like this, except the mentioned BA guides.
(and I check(ed) springinfo somewhat regulary, not because I hope to find something interessting but to see what impression new people might get)

The 1% are the BA guides which I can not find right now and your (?) rant about AI interface.

But maybe ask the people who posted.
(I do not mind my stuff getting deleted if it makes for a fresh start)

Oh that wasn't hand written.

At the moment the code checks to see if a particular piece of data was attached to the post and uses that as the permalink instead if it's found. The old feed scraping code did not add this.

Forboding also added code to link a users username to their site, though I've said in my dev site posts I intend to change this to author listings with a bio at the top.

^^ Yeah, that was a quick and dirty "fix" because by default the username wasn't linked to anything. Having it send to author's website was the quickest and easiest way at the time.

As knorke hinted at - the major part of my posts/"articles" can either also be found here in the forums or on indiedb. Thus the loss of the news posts on springinfo is no total loss (only speaking for me here).
