@Sean, very well put.

Well let's see. First, I was asked to fix TFC's project for him. Second, because of the fact that TFC didn't update his project, the devs got plastered with complaints and JK basically said "fuck you all, I'm not messing with it anymore" (a sentiment that I can't blame him for), so in essence TFC's lack of action fucked over all of the rest of us.

I have a very good reason to be pissed off. Having JK doing pathfinder work is a really really good thing. The guy is pretty much a brilliant coder (although I wish he would comment it more ;p) and no one else wants to touch pathing, which means that the pathfinder will stagnate even further... Wonderful.

So thanks. The rest of us get screwed again by BA's lack of proper maintenance. Heh, nothing new there.

82.3 broke lots of things that had to be fixed modside anyway. I consider having to remove to remove the heatmapping modside no different than having to remove every call to AllowUnsafeChanges. Both times, the engine devs took a stupid decision that every mod and by ricocher player suffered from. But we're supposed to believe it's all for the greater good, we're supposed to believe that updating a hundred mods is no big deal and will naturally happen at once. I'm used to it now, every major Spring release breaks something that has then to be fixed modside. But at least this time, some of the breaking changes were clearly announced, so it's not that bad!

Wow, you're extremely disproportionally pissed off by this. Get over it man.

The engine should have been quickly patched to revert the pathfinding changes.

I was aware that setting heatmapping to false would not exactly restore the old behaviour so did not see a point in playing catch-up while a fix should have been imminent from the engine.

I am also grateful for the community for their feedback on this change because there's no way jk would have accepted anything from me personally.

The next inveterate, abusive post will result in a grand visitation of red ink. Just because this is a derailment doesn't mean it is beyond the purview of moderation.
