Shift+Esc to Quit

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
@Car: Preferably? All of them. I haven't looked at CA in a while so I'm not sure how much is in the menu now. Obvious downside of this is that it's mod-specific, and yes I know it's LUA so it can be ported to other mods but most won't, out of either laziness or not wanting to steal stuff, who knows what the reason may be, it would just be really nice to have a global menu for these things.
@very_bad_soldier: next best thing, looks great, can't wait. :D
I hate shift-esc but there is something to be said for accidently doing bad things with hotkey enabled menus. One time I accidently pressed h(instead of space-h, one of my building hotkeys), quickly followed by spacebar and instantly gave away all my units.
Not sure how you'd do that with esc though.

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
I'd understand perfectly if Esc just ended the game. But it brings up a menu. Unless you're click-happy I don't understand how you can accidentally quit the game by mistake 20 times when I haven't done that once in 3 years. Maybe work on your hand-eye coordination a bit?zerver wrote:I have quit the game by mistake at least 20 times, many fine battles ruined, this was why I decided the good old shift-esc was better.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Almost, the mouse was already in the right place, and I didnt accidentally press Esc, I wanted to cancel the command or something, but no command was active.Sucky_Lord wrote:You accidentally pressed Esc, moved the mouse to hover over the "quit" icon, and pressed down on the left mouse button.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Personnally when I press esc I get this menu:

Maybe there's something wrong with your Spring? Try reinstalling...

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
I very much like the shift-escape sequence and applaud those that move it from the escape key.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Maybe you don't use the Esc key during actual game play? I do, and this could make the difference. This accidental quit happens in less than a second, so has little to do with coordination. It is more like a reflex, probably clicking trying to get rid of this annoying window that has popped up, but the mouse happens to be in the wrong position.Jazcash wrote:how you can accidentally quit the game by mistake 20 times when I haven't done that once in 3 years. But, disregarding your personal preferences, do you think Shift+Esc should stay the default for all new players?zerver wrote:Maybe you don't use the Esc key during actual game play? Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Is there no way to implement a choice system in the spring settings?
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
You get a choice on plenty of things, this is kind of trivial thoughSucky_Lord wrote:Is there no way to implement a choice system in the spring settings?
If you care so much - there might be something you can edit in uikeys.txt
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Yes I do because a "cancel" command key is needed, and it should not pop up a window if the unit happens to die before the key is pressed.very_bad_soldier wrote:But, disregarding your personal preferences, do you think Shift+Esc should stay the default for all new players?
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
does esc do anything other than make a message appear saying press shift + esc?
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Yes it cancels the current command. Particularly useful if you are drawing an area reclaim order or such, and suddenly change your mind and want to keep the previous command.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
oh well as long as it does something. I am now completely fine with the esc to shift + esc switch.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Right click works too.zerver wrote:Yes it cancels the current command. Particularly useful if you are drawing an area reclaim order or such, and suddenly change your mind and want to keep the previous command.
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
How many people complained when it was changed to just esc last time? More than complained now it was changed back to shift-esc? -edit- Firefox didn't get to where it is today by defying UI convention at the expense of new users.

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
tbh though I think shift-escape makes sense as an engine-level, lua-independant shortcut to quit the game. escape menu should be implemented in the mod (as kp). BA has recently adopted new lua UIs so it could easily be implemented.

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
How many other games have you played that require pressing shift AND esc to quit?
Ive never played a game like this, its always just been esc

Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
Indeed, although you should never press the esc when you play this game...
Re: Shift+Esc to Quit
I agree with this. Just remove escape options altogether! Stop players raging!TradeMark wrote:Indeed, although you should never press the esc when you play this game...
