i was disappointed when i saw this, i mean i don't own an iPod or iPhone, but i know how epic they are, and i was waiting for Apple to unveil something really revolutionary like they usually do.
I'm hearing more and more bad things about the iPad, like no camera, no multi-tasking etc. oh well... the one AWESOME thing about Apple doing something is that a bunch of other companies will try to make similar products... maybe one of the clones will be the awesome multi-touch net-tablet we're all wishing for.
Anyone whose jailbroken has tried backgrounder and the multitasking apps
iPhone OS 3.2 runs the iPad
By inference, the iPad can eventually be jailbroken.
So that means allt he iPad stuff, coupled with a tonne of other stuff, like gameboy emulators, N64 emulators, snes, background tasks, task switching tools, terminals, full access to the filesystem, unlocked tethering, etc etc etc
heck you can run windows 95 in a VM on a 3gs
Imo the iPad was overhyped, but its nonetheless looking very nice, I'd buy one if only to replace the horrific job that is keeping a windows machine for my family from falling flat on its face every 2 months. They cant mess up an iPad or an iPod touch like they can a copy of XP
That and notebooks are slow and clunky, they dont even have extended battery time, the iPad promises 10hours which is triple what can be expected out of a notebook, though I expect with 3g this will be less. Normally I end up getting these cheap computers to browse the net but then I end up doing heavyweight tasks on them anyway, the iPad removes this temptations.
aegis wrote:aside from the fact it really does look like a larger ipod, I'm impressed with the screen, the processor (reviewers said the main point they noticed was how FAST it is), and some of the interface designs (the sdk has a bunch of new stuff to facilitate some pretty sweet user interfaces)
as for most of the possible shortcomings, I'm going to wait until I use one to decide whether I like it.
it surely is faster than a i7 or a c2c + a nvidia card ..., plus as you can run only one application at a time it will run just better !! and it is so nice !! and you can't plug anything on it, why would you need to plug anything, it does everything with its 500 000 iphone application !!! and you can edit text files now !! THAT'S A REVOLUTION !!
how the fuck can anyone think it's good ? the iphone is good, the ipods are not bad but the ipad ? what the fuck ??
you can't say for sure the lack of apple-sanctioned multitasking will last long. there's absolutely nothing stopping apple from implementing it.
also... push notifications and apps' ability to instantly save their state when exiting and resume exactly where they left off are pretty decent substitutes for now.
anyway, it's all about prerogative.
if you try it and like it, good for you. if you try it and don't, that's fine too.
if you just don't want to take a chance or don't think it has worth, that's okay.
nothing either side can probably say will convince the fanbois from the other.
