There are a lot of varieties of tower defense: You dont need turret upgrade progression or a lot of creeps. Some of the best TD's ive played had only one to six creep types (Though there are enough models out there right now to give you more creeps than you'll ever need).

There are maze TD's, path TD's, TD's where income is kill-dependent and where it is investment-dependent (Balancing economy vs military like a traditional RTS). TD's where the creeps attack your turrets and ones where they simply rush an objective.

I mean, chickens could be seen as a kind of TD, really. Towers are used as the primary defense rather than units, and it would fit pretty easily in the path-TD (With some mazing), investment-dependent, aggressive-creep genre.

So there is plenty of room to create something in Spring, even if all you are doing is taking Chickens wholesale and creating a new turret setup to fight them with which is balanced specifically towards the chickens rather than for regular multiplayer (Doesnt even need lua, just long range nanos).

...not that i expect anything to come from this thread (given the OP), but i think the amount of trolling around here is rather unconstructive.

i was thinking about BA turrents vs. BA units... more like mini-game than spring mod

Also vector-td2.

And Gem Tower Defense is good, the best maze-TD, imo (though no fast forward and the randomness is a bit meh), because it has complex maze building and requires you to use many many types of turrets.

I didn't read the whole thread but I just played a cool TD variant (demo on the PS3) where both players could build towers and "creep production" buildings... then they could send waves of creeps at each other... the towers could attack each other so you could slowly encroach on enemy territory... but your cursor could also be attacked by enemy towers and as such you would need to retreat back to your zone to repair... also there are asteroids that have resources come out of them when your towers blow them up that need to be collected by your cursor... and your cursor can grab the asteroids and drag them close to your towers to get them blown up... it's called Comet Crashers BTW.

Oh, The Space Game, if only you had a bounty mode. Defending against ever-increasing waves after straightforwardly sucking the entire resource field dry only goes so far, even if there are different challenge methods. The campaign was great while it lasted.

Games take time and effort. Releasing prematurely is detrimental to the production of a decent game.

I am not going to post the status of TD at least the version I am working on.. and that is the key part. I am working on it. As in, in the origonal thread, I said very plainly that I would be more than happy to put a lot of effort into said project if I would just have some help.

Help came and went. It wasn't that I was a dick for a project lead, maybe I was too understanding. We ran things in a psuedo democracy and when people wanted to do work on their other projects or had to bail because of IRL I was understanding.

I honestly kept trucking for months on my own, then my MBO asploded(not litterally) and I had NO computer to work on. It would not be until 3 months later that I got a working pc again. By then I was moving and had a new job. That was last spring.

TD needed a lot of lua love, hell it still does. However, lua was new and I think spring broke td roughly 12 times over the past year and a half. Of course my lua understanding was not even shakey so I was just plodding away at the ui code mainly and doing stuff like weapons, creep and getting effects and waves done. However, over the past year I have hit lua hard in both gundam and my unanounced side project. This is important in completing td... but god help me if I wanted to pick up something and learn.

I do not post updates because of people like Satirik, Regret and Saktoth who would spend long lengths of time giving me shit about it. I am sure just making this post will summon them but frankly I have a lot to do right now and am going to be scarce. To regret's credit his redui is going to be key when I resume work on td. So I respect regret for that, he talked shit and BACKED IT THE FUCK UP!

I am not the community's slave and I am not here to do the bidding of a bunch of lazy jackoffs who won't learn this skills to help. I never raged so much about the fact that people were YET again talking about TD. It was more that they were bitching when I knew full well they were too fucking lazy to do anything to help.

I don't care what your excuse is, I have them to but I am a capable artist(a title I only recently felt I have earned) and you know what. you guys can make fun of me and mock me. In the end you are not doing dickwaddle to help and only harassing the one guy left working on TD. So I think all things considered I can rage at people demanding me to give them free work and not offering to help. After all...

what has otherside EVER done.

Seriously, I don't think any of the jokes have been mean spirited (well, except for Otherside, but he's always mean-spirited). I think it's just friendly ribbing because it's kind of a funny story - you had gameplay videos that made the thing look almost-ready and then the project vanished. I mean, it's your project and nobody blames you for doing whatever the hell you want with it. We're just taking the piss because it's kinda sad and kinda funny, and funny is more fun than sad.

Good to hear you're taking another look at it.
