Yes, there is no *need*. Just as threre is no need to use an installed photo editing application when you could do it online.

Not if you are editing an image straight off the web.

and then re-download it just to upload it again to a image sharing site.

the ability to save straight to the web ready for linking seemed to be missing in pixlr, yes..
