I have not recently bought an AMD cpu, strictly because I happen to have a socket 775 motherboard that I'd hate to replace. It's served me well for like 5 years, through 3 different CPUs, 4 graphics cards, 2 sets of memory, etc. A good motherboard is like treasure, I hate to throw it away.

Otherwise I would be using a Phenom 2 right now probably, just due to price:performance.

That aside, why do you recommend Nvidia over ATI? I have used a 4870 and a 4890 for the last couple of years without issue. More recently I've been playing Spring a fair bit as well, no problems there either. TBH I think there's just a lot of misconceptions... ATI is doing very well right now, the merger with AMD has finally started to pay off.

Don't make him blow up his new computer... I've fixed like a billion computers that "experts" have built themselves, trust me, there are a ton of things you can do wrong when you have no idea what you're doing.

Granted, it's not really hard to build the PC and make it turn on. To get the best performance you need to know a lot more. And if you have even more knowledge, you can get identical or similar performance for much less money.

the phenom II X2 series was just released... might be worth a try for those who don't want to splurge on a quad... and they might overclock much better than the quads/triples...

I approve of the computer but the price seems high. Then again you're in Europe so you get screwed on everything.

I'm not confident enough to do that yet. I'd probably blow all the components up after fitting them in the wrong place and not having a decent PSU ¬¬
I've heard that some places will help you build your computer based on what kinds of capabilities you're looking for. You should shop around.
