The word racist is commonly used as a substitute for someone with ignorance about things which results in negative presumptuous derogatory comments/thoughts from said someone about said things.

That's not how you judge people throughout history..
These people lived in times of slavery both in the us and Europe, which by that time were the most liberal areas of the world...
Are we to judge every important figure in history by contemporary standards and than nullify any of their achievements cause they do not meet contemporary civil rights laws?
The american constitution was one of the most important documents in human history alongside with the magna carta...

yes. but even more, we are to judge contemporary assholes who adore historical assholes as heroes.

and there is a large difference between the assholes of the french revolution, who killed their own countrymen and brought enlightenment to the world, and the assholes of the american revolution, who sloughtered the population of a continent and brought mcdonalds to the world.

Let me just remind you that it was Napoleon who brought enlightenment and tryed to abolish slavery with his conquests...so your argument fails...
not to mention that the civil rights movement which has turned(not the fault of its founders) into a disgrace originated in the us and martin luther king..
the US is still the most liberal country in the world so Im not sure what your saying..ahem obama ahem..
Where is the algerian president of france?
Almost every country in europe has been involved in genocide..

An obviously risky forum thread derailed into fruitless and destructive argument in less than a day? Of course, I'm not at all surprised.

Waldo: Look up the definition of Irony.
Journier: Take a basic Rhetoric course. You're alright on detecting flaws in argumentation but absolutely terrible at expressing yourself. Take a History course covering Africa as Tombom recommended, I think you'd actually enjoy it. If somebody attempts to disrupt a discussion by drawing out an off-topic point from your statements, do not engage them, it is unproductive and you are as responsible for the derailment as the other party.
Boirunner: Take a History course covering South and North America. English colonists and then Americans did conduct acts of genocide and engaged in entirely unjustifiable wars, such as the Mexican-American War, but the bulk of the indigenous inhabitants of the twin continents died during the early Spanish colonial period, rather than the early English colonial period. Most of your points are valid, but jumping from a reference to the words of a single man into an attack on an entire nation, whether or not your later points are valid, is not acceptable - it is merely derailment in search of a way to vent. I am immensely critical of the United States myself, so I cannot say I do not agree or at least sympathize with many of your statements but they have nothing to do with the original topic of discussion. Don't hijack.
Tombom: I understand general negative interpretation, being a cynic myself, but sometimes it is better to be silent if you're not going to contribute.
Regret: Same for you.
FLOZi: Same for you.
Gota: If there is a derailment, you don't need to contribute to it.

Anyway, normally I would warn everybody but I don't think any of this fire and brimstone derives from legitimate ill will but rather poor presentation and easy judgment, so I'm merely closing the thread.
